Did anyone see the "recent" (not too sure when it was broadcast as I recorded it and only recently watched it) documentary on the making of "Dark Side of the Moon"? Seems they asked the young lady to do the vocal on this track (I can't remember her name but I'm sure someone will tell me!), she did it in one take, then apologised because she thought she'd ruined it! Amazing track - I saw "The Pink Floyd Experience" last year - they are a tribute band WELL worth catching if you get the chance. Their backing singer does an amazing job on this!
Another B-side. Can you believe this track was one.? The A-side was Hello Goodbye, by those cheeky lads from Liverpool. No, not The Spinners. This is I Am The Walrus: I wanted to play a couple of early definitive Beatles B-sides. People may notice I hardly ever link live stuff. As I've said before, if I want to hear often badly played and under rehearsed sounds, with a lead singer's throat straining with too much touring, and swamped by audience noise infiltration, I'd do that. You can get Beatles versions of those by the truckload on Youtube. You can even get early studio takes and people videoing their Beatles records going round while they put a cheap microphone to a bad pair of speakers. But no proper B-sides or album tracks that were B-sides. This is the earliest one I found in good upload quality. So I didn't choose it, it chose my search category. but I'm certainly not complaining. And that lead out is fantastically evocative of the 1960's, right down to the last 'sit you down father, bless you'. I think it's that whistling MW radio that helps do it. It does the same on Cut My Hair from Quadrophenia. The early transistor radio is a icon of the 1960s.
Not a big fan of Queen personally, but there is no denying that Freddie Mercury was a brilliant showman. He was born on this day in Zanzibar as Farrokh Bulsara in 1946. This is an undeniable classic and the vocals of his and David Bowie's on it are a tour de force...

This one is a real personal treat as I say Happy Birthday to the gorgeous Chrissie Hynde, who is 65 today. She is my favourite female vocalist ever and when her voice was matched with James Honeyman-Scott's guitar it was aural nectar to me. She just happens to be a wonderful human being too...**** McDonalds!...
