surely it would have to be real time? IF the guy is watching tv to see the signals from the catcher then the pitch is within a second or two so it would have to be absolutely live instant passing of pitch to the matter.

From what read(I'll try and find it again), the Boston feller had an apple watch streaming the game, and could see the catchers pitching orders.

Can apple watches stream from the internet?

I just read the bbc wesbite.

    camera on the catcher.

guy watching is on phone. tells guy in dugout with the watch what the signal is and he signals it to batter.

so.... it seems a very long practice of "stealing signs"

According to a BBC Technology report, the MLB investigation has found that the the Red Sox would have had an off-field person watching a TV feed of the catcher, That person would then contact the dug-out via the Apple Watch, and that signal would be passed on to the batter.

Like mito said, by the time they get the message to the batter the play has already taken place.

I read the coach got basic messages like "2 fingers = curveball" (so the Apple watch might as well have been any pager/mobile/smartwatch) which he told tothe player in case he happened to be on 2nd base and saw the catcher use 2 fingers so he could signal the batter.

Yes not a per pitch technique, just a general sign. So the Apple watch could have been anything.

Seems to long and drawn out to be plausible, it's just sour grapes from the NY press, they are like us and man Yoo when it comes to the Red Sox.

yes, it was literally as simple as that.

the ny lads could have cottoned on and switched it up each innings if they wanted.

at the end of the day the whole system is to help the catch catc hthe ****ing ball... a pitcher has to be able to think for himself.

the cheat there is the 2nd base could be able to see for himelf and thats legal so if they there telling him there were trying to make damned sure it looked legit.

How is it cheating? If your signals are visible then surely its your own fault?

    cos the rules say so?

the rules seem to say if a player on the field can see them he can signal but use of any binoculars etc is not. There seems to be a case of this way back in the 1950s where they admitted they used a telescope in a house across the way and then signalled somehow.

I would in general agree that if the are visible obviously they can be intercepted. You would wonder how the hell they have not yet come up with a means to signal between them...

I presume in the main its not the catcher calling the tune its the pitcher but as the pitcher is visible to the batter the catcher signals a suggestion and the pitcher chooses one..... i dunno though... like isn't it 90% the catcher needs to catch the pitch as a loose ball can mean a run.

    Understood.

I just find it bizarre that the rules say you can't use looking at hand signals to your advantage. Surely every team has a hand signal system therefore anyone who wants to take advantage of that, can.

What does that mean for Everton? Does that mean no running track at the stadium?
