Wood, Slattery and Tyreke Johnson have all been out for long periods too iirc. And of course, Jake Flannigan, unfortunately he seems to have injury problems constantly. It could be that they're pushing themselves too hard, or the training/recovery for the academy just isn't up to scratch yet. Our first team is usually (touch wood) pretty good when it comes to injuries.
Surely it can't just be the fans that have noticed the down turn in results and the increased injuries being experienced?
it's a bit of cliché, but results are not the bread and butter of the academy. In Jaidi we're giving a young coach an opportunity to learn as well. The injuries are a concern. As said we seem to do ok with the first team, but perhaps the sports science is behind when it comes to young players who are still growing and on how much their bodies are able to cope with.
Last season the first team seemed to have some terminal hamstring issues. Did we change someone in that department last season?
He hasn't- he has had a hamstring injury along with Targett and McCarthy last season. Only other significant injury which only kept him out a few weeks was the thigh injury against Burnley.
I remember he wen't off with a knee injury on his league debut a couple of years ago. His first injury last year was ankle i think? but he came back from that. I don't know what his current injury is, only that it will be a couple of months before he's back in contention,
It was a thigh muscle injury not knee- as I said against Burnley which was his full debut (was sub against ManU earlier that week)- current injury was hamstring which was also the problem last October.
i had a look and found this. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jake-hesketh/verletzungen/spieler/315185 http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/clubs/17/southampton_injuries.html What's your source?
Koeman also confirms the injury came from a knock to the knee: https://southamptonfc.com/news/2014-12-13/boss-sad-after-heskeths-bow-cut-short
yep it was a knock to the muscle above the knee- not a knee injury- he was back on the bench within 5 weeks
