I'd just be happy so long as we actually get a decent striker! We've missed out on at least 3 targets, and he wants to play for us. I'm more excited at the possibility of Cissokho though <diva>

True. Like I say, hard to really pass judgment until we actually see him play in a black and white shirt due to the lack of information out there about him!

We need a PACEY/SKILLFUL ala Suarez/Aguero type striker I'll say. Clinical finisher(or atleast a good one), fast, nippy and agile. A forward who can run past defenders with his pace and work his way through the box with skill.. that's what we need! Not another target man or ''strong/powerful'' striker which this Maiga guy seems to be.. we NEED PACE, MOVEMENT AND SKILL! <ok>

The idea that we are actually looking to bring in Cissokho is fantastic! Although, I'm still not sure it will happen. Also, re strikers, lets not forget that when HBA is fit, he will be plyaed as the "number 10" withdrawn striker, rather than in midfield.

EDIT: Plus, if we bring in Maiga, it will push Stroller down the pecking order, so thats even better news! :D

Montbeliard is really nice and I've spent a fair bit of time in that region. Where in France will you be based? Belfort? Mulhouse?

How much do we know about this guy, to say whether he is "nippy" or not? Or indeed what sort of player he is at all?

Problem is that we fans have all become footballing experts - presumably from snatches of action on utube, or even on CM (I've seen some of our presumably younger members commenting on that). In reality, we know bugger all about the REAL workings of football. How otherwise could a player like Shola, who has more detractors than fans, be so highly rated, by a succession of NUFC managers - including SBR, and apparently the players?

One has to presume that these players have been recommended by Graham Carr. That being so, I'm happy to go along with that. OK, I've never heard of Maiga. BUt the again, I'd never heard of Tiote, Cabaye or Marveau, before they were linked with us.

I too am frustrated at the lack of progress towards securing a LB or striker. However, that appears to be the way of football nowadays, and a club often has to be incredibly patient, and hardnosed to get the players it wants. It took Barcelona two years to get Fabergas, and the same kind of cat-and-mouse games appear to be going on, at present, with Modric/Nasri/Tevez etc.

I never said he's not a good striker just because of his lack of youtube videos, or that he's not a good striker just because I've not heard of him. I stated several times that I can't really pass judgment due to the lack of information about him and I know very little about him. He actually looks, from the very little that we have to work with, like a cracking player. But not necessarily the type of striker that I would, personally, be over the moon with. I'd still be happy that we got him in, don't get me wrong, because he looks decent and all striker nonsense is doing me head in. I just feel that maybe we should be after somebody a little bit different. But, as I say, I know little about him and welcome him to come and prove me entirely wrong. I would love that, in fact.

I just don't want the club to make the wrong decision just because Pardew feels under pressure to get a new striker in, is all.

Personally, I have no idea. It was just an opinion really.

But, as has been pointed out, the need for a big man little man striker approach would be eradicated if we plan on playing 451/411/4231 whatever. It's just nice to have the option to mix things up a bit!

Lyon’s Aly Cissokho is now the priority defensive target and Pardew has hinted the club may be prepared to lodge an improved offer to get their man.

In a candid pre-derby briefing, he also admitted the squad was not as strong as it was 12 months ago – but said the situation would improve before the transfer deadline.

Am I missing something but how can you "candidly" "hint" something!!

I work in a University and every summer French school kids, about 13/14 come over for a few weeks and do a few mini-lectures and ****e like that. We think our kids in this country are rude and a pain in the ass - they ain't got nothing on the French. Mind you, the Italian kids are far worse!

As you're in a primary school they shouldn't be at the age where they're total twats yet.

All we can go on with is the clips on YouTube to see whether this lad Maiga would cut it at NUFC. If you watch them, he looks quick, big, but screams inconsistency. The fact we have 3 big inconsistent strikers already in Ba, Shola and Best doesn't exactly have me getting excited at the prospect of bringing another one in to complete a Fab-Four. Or would that be Drab-Four....

Tell me about it, I used to live in France and spent a few years in a french Primary, i've also done an assistantship at a french school a few years ago- so I sort of have an idea what to expect, thank god!

Though personally it seems French teachers are given a lot more freedom in terms of discipline, they'll scream at at the kids if need be and aren't shy to put their hands on them either- just wish this country wasn't so sensitive and just gave a little more power to teachers...
