If you read some of the other things he has written you will find that he actually got what he wanted at the General Election, a PM who has had the power taken away from her. He was disappointed that Corbyn didn't get a few more seats so that the DUP couldn't be bought.
You always get some oddballs, hopefully he will be happy when May is replaced by Rees Mogg or some other firm Brexiteer. Anna Soubry is another oddball having a mid life crisis. When you have hundreds of MPs you are bound to get a few strange ones, not a problem the Lib Dems have being such a rare breed.
Assuming that after Brexit Britain will not disappear into fog forever and that there will still be some trade with our nearest neighbours, assuming also that many British will still travel to other European countries on holiday (Brussels is still only 2 hours away by train and the tunnel will not turn into a white elephant) could the dynamic change ? By that I mean now that English will not be an official language of the EU. can we expect that Germans and French will now give more priority to learning each others languages in their schools and that eg. future businessmen visiting the continent will no longer be able to rely on being able to do it in English. Could it mean that SH. on his next visit to Croatia would have to learn the basics of Croatian ? Or maybe French or German in reserve ?
If you want a bit of fun go into motorway services in England and ask for a couple of coffees in French. I did it forgetting where I was having just come off a ferry, and the look of horror from the guy was a joy. Over here because I still have my English accent I find that assistants in shops often wish to practice their English on me. The English are not generally good linguists, myself included.
No, because of the dominance of the English language nothing will change. You have often, quite rightly, claimed that the UK is a preferred destination of migrants because of the language. I will not be speaking Croatian or indeed much Spanish later this month because I am useless at languages. I try but I know my ability is pretty low.
I'm not sure about that SH. If English is not an official language of the EU. (by the way the official lang. of Ireland is Gaelic). In short if there is no English speaking country in the EU. then things will change albeit slowly - particularly with the USA. slowly losing its global influence. Up to now German and French businessmen have been prepared to communicate in English with each other - this will change. Also with the increased use of international keyboards English may decrease in importance as the dominant internet language. At the moment I cannot write a mail in French on my PC. because I do not have the necessary accents over letters - English has none of these and so has an advantage - do you have an ö or a ü on your keyboard - or maybe a ß ? Probably not - so you cannot write a mail in German, but this will change. So you may have to brush up on a couple of foreign languages. After Brexit you cannot expect that a British businessman who still wants to sell something in Frankfurt can expect that his host will want to, or be willing to, change his language. In business it is generally so that the seller is required to cross over the language barrier. Apparently only 9% of British teenagers are able to hold a conversation in another language - the EU. average is 42%.
I use a large screen Apple iMac, I have never checked the capabilities of foreign language. I do not expect things to change much, the UK and the US will not go away. I do not expect english will stop being the language of business and I do not expect to witness any change in fifty years time. UK business with the rest of the EU is diminishing all the time, I expect much growth in business with english speaking and other non EU countries.
What is going on now? Referring to the timetable for talks, Mr Verhofstadt told the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs: “Possibly the next round of negotiation will be the last week of September because apparently there will be an important intervention by the British Prime Minister in the coming days. This is a week later than was intended, and the week before the Tory conference. Has she been told to go so that a new team can be put in place by the time of the conference? Has she caved in to the EU guidelines and wants to get on with trade talks? Has she decided that Davis is not up to the job and is going to appoint someone else? Any other suggestions?
