Superb article by Craig Bailey on MFW this morning and definitely worth reading!!!
Here are some excerpts - “On the pitch however we’ve seen a lot of changes in personnel and in style. We all know that the result of this will mean that the first ten games, minimum, will be needed to find our feet. It may take even longer to bed in properly, it may take a couple of seasons, but it does feel that some of the problems could be solved by returning to basics.
Our defence has been lambasted over the first few games, many screaming for new centre-backs to be purchased, others booing our captain. The criticism is perfectly understandable – there have been many mistakes by defenders – and as a result Grant Hanley has come in. A move I welcome.
But I don’t think it’s that simple. The defenders are far from alone in making mistakes.
Teams defend as, well… you know, a team. Last season I felt that our midfielders were mostly good on the ball and going forward, but too lightweight and attack minded, Tettey and Mulumbu aside. The reality is we’ve not addressed that as yet and, in fact, have got more lightweight and more attack minded.
I know several on here have mentioned this and I MOST certainly agree!!!!

This is why it has been so disapoointing to see Thompson injured and Godfrey loaned out. Both could be doing a job to make us a bit more robust in midfield. That said, Farke would still need to recognise the need to play them with Reed and as Tettey isn't getting any game time, uptil now you can only summise that Farke does not see the need for that added toughness in the middle of the park, aftr Millwall he surely must!
OK so Tettey is a retrograde step for possession football and unlocking the opposition but he may be a necessary evil.

Bah!

We have lacked "steel" in defence and midfield - Hanley will add it to the defence and the return of Tettey to the midfield mix may not help the possession football theory but would make us less easy to roll over.

He had a really good game against Charlton - certainly one of his better ones, so I'd really like to see him starting against Brum.

We need a player like him in there. He's the only one we have got other than Reed. But they are different kinds of Midfielders. Tetty is much more holding, defensive and strength based. We need that in this League.

Just watched the Sunday Supplement where all 4 football writers all ripped England apart.

I thought it was just me who was not impressed.

I've not heard a single person praise England's performance so far. Well apart from DD.

(Hopefully by saying that, we will storm tonight's game 5-0 and actually play well for the first time since......I can't even remember) Come on England, please just have a good game.

Edit- Joe Hart somehow starts again.....
