Been a fan of Deftones since first hearing White Pony in the early 2000's. Some bands change for the worst, Deftones are the polar opposite.
One more Peter Gabriel single from me. I could have picked anything from those solo albums, he was so on fire. But he went away for a few years to do other things and then came back with Steam, from the album US. Great power pop track:
Must be time for some Beach Boys. Here's a non-Brian Wilson penned song [WHAAAT.?]. Yep, they could do it, and they were pretty good too. OK, Carl Wilson had a hand in writing this along with Al Jardine and Mike Love. And Carl was a great songwriter, even if he didn't reach the genius levels of his brother. This is cosy stuff which sweeps you away on a carpet of softness. It's probably too cute for some. From the Carl & the Passions: So Tough album. All This Is That:
Always loved The Beach Boys. I know a great deal of their songs from growing up, but Wild Honey is one of my favourite tracks of theirs. Sonic Youth did a good cover of I Know There's an Answer on the deluxe edition of their album 'Goo', but sadly I couldn't find it on YouTube to link. What I was able to find however was a cover they did of The Carpenters that is excellently done: Then a cover of Bob Dylan (title track for the film 'I'm Not There'):
Radar Love, by Golden Earring, was probably the last single I ever bought. And just like singles I quickly grew tired of it. All that getting up and down changing records didn't help. Very young pepys have had it easier. Anyway, one day I decided to flip the single instead. I did a lot of that at one time and often discovered better tracks, or at least, tracks I liked better. This was one. The B-side to Radar Love, Just Like Vince Taylor:
Happy Birthday to Steve "Jonesy" Jones, legendary Lead Guitarist for the Sex Pistols who is 62 today. He was the original member along with Drummer, Paul Cook and they first formed a band after stealing musical equipment from other bands at concerts! His guitar style is basically the blueprint for the Punk Rock sound and has been massively imitated. He was also the one who put the group on the map by infamously calling Bill Grundy a "dirty ****er" on national TV!
This song was written by Steve and Paul for Sid Vicious after Sid and Johnny Rotten had left the band....
