I'm not sure why you would be actively seeking bids as you clearly did not want to sell, but that's not what I'm saying.
The point still remains that you didn't receive a bid. Nobody tested Southampton's resolve.That's the factual bit. Will it be enough to steer other clubs, including Liverpool, away in the future, that remains to be seen.

Article discussing what we should do with Virgil. . Bit tall for a hairdresser....and he'd need retraining. With his ponytail, I think he'd make a great barista....though he would need lessons in being pleasant to people and turning up for work.

 

How can we prove that we are no longer a selling club?, by not selling I guess, I have no reason not to believe our Chairman after the transfer window that has just passed. Actions speak louder than words.

 

Again, like Saints alive your missing the point I'm making. Yes,you may have had some enquiries, yes,you may have said we don't want to sell and that may have put off potential bids. The facts remain that you didn't receive a bid, so in the end the club didn't have to make any decision.
Will it be enough for future transfers of important saints players,that's a complete unknown.

 

Of course it won't steer clubs away in the future, what it does is show we'll sometimes say no.

Bloody hell, this is hard work. NO action was required, because you received NO bids. The rest is just noise mate and can now never be proved or not.

 

No it's factual. Liverpool issued a grovelling apology and said they would end their interest (at least for this window) and your own board said they received no bids - both factual.

 

I don't know why it bothers you so much?...VVD is a Saints player and the chances are that he will still be a Saints player next season. I think that Liverpool may be your second team?

 

I see the point your making and agree. We did choose however to report the tapping up and make life awkward for potential bidders. It's not turning down a bid but hopefully its a sign of our back bone starting to show!

Believe me, it really doesn't bother me. I don't have a second team, I do look for Liverpools results as my late dad was a huge fan but beyond that I don't really care what goes on. This has only been of interest because like the Coutinio saga, the eventual non-event was Sky's big summer headlines.
My comments to you was that, it's easy to make comments when decisions don't have to be made. You hung on to a player you wanted to keep, great. Will he now get his head down and earn his salary, I would hope so.
Will all this raise its head again next season, who knows?

 

I think the point was he was not for sale full stop. The fact Saints had no bids for him was because there was a simple statement made..........They would not consider any bids for him. I have been told there was conversations between Saints and at least two other clubs about this matter. They were told the same that it would not be worth bidding. In truth my source does not know who those clubs were though.

 

Well we might sell him if he can't get into team because of Wesley and Jack's form.....

 

Youve said this in about seven posts. Doesn't make it true.

One thing you live with as a Saints supporter is that almost nothing leaks out about our deals at either end. I suspect that when people talk to us there's a first line of conversation that runs along the lines of "talk publicly about this and it's off". The club has also completely dried up the supply of Saints forum ITKs.

So by all means repeat ad nauseam that we received no bids. By all means believe it yourself. However, accept that you don't know it.

I've repeated it several times, because it's what your club have come out and said. Are you now saying they lie? That really makes the "he's not for sale" more credible.

 

Actually I don't think anyone has disagreed about the no bids Saga. The truth is no one outside of Saints knows that for certain. By your no bids comment you seem to be of the opinion that there had been no enquiries about him. (Other than Scousehampton) As I said earlier that is not the case..........Although granted no apparent bids were made..........

The club made the decision he was not for sale and that was common knowledge
As a result no one bothered bidding as they knew it was a waste of time
Next summer will probably be a different scenario
