He is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Simpson - who can't position himself, can't tackle, has never stopped a cross in his life, and offers nothing in attack.

Infact he is so scared of making a tackle he literally backs off until the guy has as much time as he possibly needs to send in a cross. If a winger were to run at him for laughs and not actually cross the ball Simpson would run into the net.

    Mini rant over.

Hardly proven Prem player, 15 games for Villa last season & a couple for Spurs. And as several said he's a RB. Watched him last night and was beaten several times by an average Scottish winger who had a bit of pace, the only times Hearts looked like scoring was when they targeted him, he made a couple of decent challenges but wouldn't say he was great. Made Assou-Ekkotou look good mind.

Would love him and have said that for a while. He's got the lot but he wouldn't come here unless it was a loan and Harry has said he'll be involved this year. There is talk of him ousting Corluka at full back. Regardless he's much better than Simpson but he's no left left back. Right back is not far down our pecking order for needs but a natural left back and striker is where all of our thoughts need focused.

He'll be a starter for Spurs this season, no question.

And full backs arent as good on the wrong side. I dont know why you think that, but they arent.

Unless you're called Dennis Irwin and was awesome at both. But generally I agree, its just a bad idea unless you're desperate

Tash has developed a weird obsession with it though, thinking we'd sign Pieters to play RB and now doing the opposite with Walker. Very rarely do you get wrong sided full backs, in fact the only one I can think of is Antonini at Milan and he is average at best.

I'll rather buy Clyne from Palace. Cheap(would cost around 1/2 mil I think) and is a young bright prospect who can cover both RB and LB. <ok>

They are a rare commodity. The only current one I've seen who is comfortable either side is Davide Santon at Inter. He was very impressive. Don't know what they're done with him this year but think he had to loaned out last year because Maicon/Chivu. Worth a sneaky loan bid?

Would be a massive coup, he's already making the national squad. If only we had the nous to look at players like this.

Agree though Sanchino, Clyne would be a good, cheap buy.

I'd expect it would be wholly unrealistic, I just remember watching him two or three year ago when he was breaking through and thinking "****ing hell its Maldini but plays both sides!" Maybe a bit strong looking back! Don't know if he has progressed, been injured or whatever but he defo went out on loan somewhere. He may just be part of the squad this year of course. I like Clyne but have seen a limited amount of him to be honest.

Don't think he's worth paying £7M-£8M for, who are we? Liverpool? Only reason he'd be priced so highly is because he's English. Would pay that for Pieters because he's an established international (as well as being a player we need). Yes, Walker has an England cap but I think that was because Fabio ate cheese the night before deciding the squad.

Pretty sure he'll be our full back by the end of this season, if not before. The only guy who might have a say is Micah Richards if he can get in the team and find his best form. Glen Johnson is a good full back but his defensive lapses are a killer at international level. He'd cost a hell of lot more than any 7m/8m though. They paid something like 8m or 9m if reports are to be believed for him and Kyle Naughton. I'd imagine Walker was the hgiher rated at the time and the larger chunk of the fee. He's now a full international, was mightly impressive at the recent U21 championships and had a great half season with Villa. Try more like 12m minimum and we need a left back!
