Considering Swansea are the envy of a lot of lower premier league dosspots, like ourselves, just wanted to guage whether you think it was ever going to make financial sense to sign someone like Renato Sanches. I am not involved in the financial agreements between players and clubs, so forgive the assumptions.

There would most likely be a hefty loan fee to persuade Bayern to loan the player, first off, judging from our efforts to land Abrahams and the current climate, and what we can also guess is that those fees don't put Swansea off. If Abrahams was commanding a season long loan fee of around £7 million, how much would Sanches be worth?

Secondly, the wages. Abrahams is likely to peak at around £30k a week, given he has not broken through at Chelsea but is regarded as a rising star. Bayern have a massive budget for stars, and Renato was supposed to be one when he signed, so his peak wages may be around £100k a week, maybe more.

So, let's guestimate that it may cost Swansea around £15 million all inc for the privelege of one season. There is no tangible re-sale value. Is this financially viable? Will shirt sales and any additional revenue from sponsorship cover this rather hefty price, or as I rather pessimistically expect, is the signing a gamble on securing premier league status alone, and Renato contributing significantly to that feat?

If that is the case, do you want to see us make these kind of deals in future rather than paying similar for less renowned players, albeit with re-sale value? Is this the future of football?

The future of football, I sincerely hope not. Short termism at it's worst based on assumptions being true. Helps no-one in the long term except the "big club" loaning the player out. The big will get bigger and the small will eventually die out.

If all clubs would collectively stop shooting themselves in the foot by agreeing these loans then the big clubs wouldn't be able to hoover up all the young talent and loan them out for fees and wouldnt be able to retain them or ultimately acquire them as they couldn't afford to keep such big squads. Those players would then naturally go to the other clubs as their actual players and, if the player improved, then sell them to the "big club" for a substantial fee which could then be used to buy more players with perhaps the same result or, dare I say it, to improve their own team.

In this silly market yes. It's 4m for the loan by all accounts. When you sign a player of that quality/standing, you pay at least 40m to get him on a 4 year contract. So realistically 4m is not bad. Granted after a year he's not yours, but after 4-5 years having shelled out 40m he's not yours either.

The market means these players are out of reach bar the top 5% so thus is one of very few avenues now open. The others are spotting a Kante (rare), or developing your own - more of a lottery (though sporting/benfica/Ajax churn them out)

I would have voted for the option of 'depends on the star'

I don't reckon that many will go crazy for shirt sale, don't feel like a lot would have with Remy.

It's the embarrassment of them not being at your club anymore. Used to piss myself at my Leeds supporting mate running round in Smith, Kewell, Keane and Bowyer tops. They'd always piss off a short time after he bought them

If our financial situation was really that we could only spend cash that we had then I don't know why we didnt go for loan players. Spreads cash outlay over the year when we should be getting our share of PL money in.
Its not a long term policy but is ideal for promoted clubs wanting to ensure PL place, as long as loanees have right attitude.

Am with Trev though that banning loans would in the long run improve the situation by stopping big clubs hoovering up players for the hell of it.

Sky Sports News last night had a chart on how many had been brought in and out each club. Two massive spikes in the chart: the 'outs' of Chelsea (40) and Man City (30-odd). Dozens of young players who have been hoovered up and now being loaned out. It has to stop. I mean we have been cap in hand to Chelsea this summer at least once asking to borrow one of their players who we could help develop for their advantage and pay them for the privilege. The Premier League actively helps to support this oligopoly of elite clubs in the Premier League. This is further supported by the unfair financial advantage of being in the Champions League. They should be trying to make it more of a level playing field but I suspect because a few elite clubs bring in the dollar from overseas audiences they will just continue to sit back and let it happen.

I don't think it should be banned but there should certainly be a cap on it. And probably other measures.

They cap how many loans a team can bring in, should be a cap to how many can go out

Only loans allowed should be for players who have developed through the academy.

I read somewhere that the fees and wages for Sanchez has £6-7m.

Id happily pay that to get someone of that quality in after the disappointing August we were having.

Sadly Mike wouldn't because there's nothing to sell on.
Imagine trying to convince him to spend that on a loan when he refused to spend it on a permanent transfer by the end of this window

Im as pissed off as anybody about our absolute farce or a summer transfer window, but is anyone seriously bothered that Swansea got Renato Sanches, and would anyone actually have wanted him here?

Aside from the obvious large financial outlay, everyone seems to be overlooking the fact he was absolute ****e for Bayern last season - no goals or assists, only played half the games and was voted worst signed of the league last season. His value has significantly dropped, hence why no good teams were interested in him and he's ended up at somewhere like Swansea. I would be very surprised if he's a success at Swansea either, as they need scrappers and fighters right now, not an overrated fancy dan like Sanches.

Can only see this one being an expensive flop for Swansea.
