I think you're a bit harsh really DL. It would have been nice, but we've still got creative players and good strikers. They've just not been performing. Sometimes it has to be up to the coach and the players to get it right, not just the Board to buy another player. I'd have liked one more, but after the last few summers I don't really think Saints fans should be grumbling on 1st September this year.
Only this time, I don't think it will be the manager who gets the final game booing if this season turns into a repeat of last...
They always say you defend as team, but the same is true the other way. We may not have signed an attacking player, but hopefully Hoedt & Lemina can get the ball forward with better quality and a bit quicker. The tempo has increased under Pellegrino, so I'm not writing off the season yet
Defensively we are stronger than we have ever been and with the added bonus of vvd and Bertrand staying despite speculation. Austin, long and gabbi can find the back of the net. We have 2 of the best wing backs who get forward creating chances, tadic and Redmond who are more than capable of creating and scoring and jwp who has a superb delivery. We have the personnel, a few tweeks in the final third should see us scoring more. We are stronger at this point in the season compared to this time last year and with less games and lesser team rotation we should start finding consistency.
I missed boufal out. He could be key. If he could realise the potential he clearly has then we could yet have an exciting and successful season COYR
I'm staggered that we kept hold of both VVD and Bertrand. I was sure we were going to lose at least one and a good chance of losing both. Well done Les and the rest of the board for keeping the exit door at St Mary's firmly shut.
We'll struggle to score goals; we simply don't have the personnel capable of putting together coherent attacks game in and game out, and no manager is really going to change that. But defensively, we should be good enough to have a good shot at a return to 8th. Life goes on.
ASAP. I'm fairly confident he will back down from his stand off - the alternative is to play no competitive football until January at the very earliest but more likely next August.
Spot on assessment RAWMOK, there is definately more goal power in this squad than the unfortunate Puel had at his disposal for much of last season.
Just out of interest why do you think this is? I agree that we should score more goals this year due to a number of factors, but with no changes to any of our attacking personnel I don't understand how you can say that Pellegrino has more goals at his disposal than Puel?
