    The Match Thread
    Coventry City 0 v 0 Watford

CoventryCity welcomes the Hornets for the fourth match of the season and between them the two teams are still looking for their first wins.

    CoventryCity

    • The Manager – Andy Thorn

    Thorn.jpg

"We've trained this morning and everybody was really at it and that's the reaction you want but when they are so young and they react like that, it's even better. I know it's going to come and it will turn. There is a good atmosphere about the place and we are still taking it game by game and are fully focussed on Watford on Saturday.”

“n the first three games, the fans have been fantastic," he said. "They want the best for the football club and we are all pulling in the right direction.”

    • The Sky Blues

    Lucas Jutkiewicz
63 mín. Freddy Eastwood replaced Roy O'Donovan

    Substitutes
    Chris Dunn
    Jason McPake
    Nathan Cameron
    Conor Thomas
    Freddy Eastwood

    Update on the SkyBlues statistics

    WATFORD

    • The Manager – Sean Dyche

“We gave away a set piece goal which from our point of view is always disappointing but from their point of view was a good goal – excellent cross and a great header. The second goal is a very poor goal, especially at that stage of the half."

“But the reality is that I read the other day that one of their players earns the same as the total of our wage bill, so that is kind of where it is at. Usually when you spend that enormous amount of money then you are going to get quality and the defining moments of the game came due to their quality.”

    • The Hornets

    Scott Loach
    Martin Taylor
    Lloyd Doyley
Carl Dickinson - caution 56 mín.
    Adrian Mariappa
    John Eustace
83 mín. Matthew Whichelow replaced Mark Yeates
    Craig Forsyth
Ross Jenkins - caution 88 mín.
90+2 mín. Josh Walker replaced Troy Deeney
    Marvin Sordell

    Substitutes:
    Rene Gilmartin
    David Mirfin
    Josh Walker
    Piero Mingoia
    Matthew Whichelow

    Who will win?

    Current form
Both Watford and CoventryCity have had poor starts to their seasons. Watford have managed one point and two goals, Coventry have no points and one goal. A recipe for disaster for one of the teams.

Akureyri's Prediction: 2:0 CoventryCity will not make the same mistakes again, the defeat in south London will forgotten. Watford will have had their worst start to a season for a long time.

Well I guess that it might come down to which side is the most nervous. :(

Thanks for the thread ak, nicely collected and presented, but I think that Watford could prove to be better away from the Vic this season, so I will go for a win.

I think that this game is crucial.

We need to pick up 3 points and start getting into the habit of winning games. If we can't beat Coventry, then we are going to struggle to beat anyone.

Both teams need a win, so it'll probably be a draw. I say a high scoring 3-3.
I think if we can get a well deserved away point it won't be the end of the world, we can't lose though.

I can see this going all three ways. If we play with confidence and Yeates learns to cross the ball and put in a quality dead ball then we could win, but if we are scared and keep backing off we will loose!!, but then again we could draw.

I feel we absolutely have to win this or we're in pretty big trouble, so gonna go with 3-1 watford, Scordell getting 2 and taylor with the other

Already or are you thinking more confidence wise the players will lose even more heart and morale could already get low?

Thanks, ak, great thread as per <ok>.

Anything could happen, I reckon. Going for a 1-1, though.

I love these predictions about "anything could happen" - yup that is the beauty of football.

However this is THE game to go to, it is an absolute cruncher with both sides knowing their fledgling managers careers potentially hang on this one result. Coventry's "sob story" is possibly worse than ours, but there is no denying both clubs are down on their luck.

Personally I'm going for an ugly win, probably by the only goal. I firmly believe the game will be easier for the away team as the home crowd will be very nervous and this could well create stage fright.

An early season 'six-pointer', the result, a 1-1 draw!

I suspect Dyche may change the starting lineup and put Deeney in from the beginning. I also think we are due to take advantage of the good periods of play we are certainly getting. Stick my neck out a bit and go for 3-0 to the Glory Hornet Boys. First goal vital but get the feeling if it's us we'll push on and win the game.

It is very interesting. Before the season, most said that the first ten(ish) games didn't matter. The results were not necessarily important as the gelling of the team was paramount.

Now, 3 games in, we have already reached the first "6 pointer" that we "must win" to prevent a "relegation" battle!!

I have certainly seen enough over the last 2 games to suggest the goals will come, and luck will fall on our side. If, in 4 weeks time we are in a similar position, then I will begin to worry.

However, I predict more misery for Coventry and a Watford win. 0-2.

Excuse me I never said early results didn't matter, I was in the "we need a good start" camp. Now that we are 3rd bottom it is time to start getting results. Coventry is an opportunity to get started, Birmingham and Reading won't be easy and then there's Barnsley. We need to get points on the board and register in the "competitive zone".

We are playing catch up already. I don't want to think about another defeat tomorrow.
