Did he think that Blondie would be the most successful band out of the CBGB scene? and if not, who did he think would "make it" the biggest?
One of my favourite covers ever...The Stranglers doing Bacharach shouldn't work, but it does with glorious results!...
It's certainly in my top 3 along with Trust and King Of America TSS. Elvis said that he listened to old Soul, Stax and Motown records non stop before he wrote and recorded this album and the influences of it are clear. like you say it's all killer and no filler...
One of the guitar greats, Stevie Ray Vaughan, died in a helicopter crash near East Troy, Wisconsin, following a concert at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre on this day in 1990, he was aged just 35..
And 61st Happy Birthday to original Sex Pistol bassist, Glen Matlock, who co-wrote much of one of the most important albums in the history of Rock...
Does anybody else remember this?, it is footage of an Anti Nazi League march in Southampton city centre and a Rock Against Racism concert in Hoglands Park (no sound unfortunately) on the same day in the Summer of 1978. I was proud of the city that day and I can remember seeing UK Subs, The Saints, The Slits and Chelsea. I can also remember a mob of NF Skins turning up and being chased across the parks!....
Just vaguely. Maybe it was just me, but it was another typical thing of Southampton that you'd find out about something you'd have liked to take part in about a couple of weeks after it had already taken place. Perhaps it's because when I've lived in my hometown it has always been in the suburbs and the news gossip vine is very poor, even to this day. Good find on the video.
Back from stewarding at a nice little festival in Kent. Saw and heard some nice stuff from some (mainly) old people. Focus - brilliant, esp' if you like an occasional yodel in your rock music. Uriah Heep - rather good, nice organ sound. Soft Machine - confusing if pleasant. Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash- very enjoyable, mainly 'cos they played the entire Argus album which remains one of my all time fave's. Lindisfarne - love Lady Eleanor, the rest was just irritating singalong folksie bollocks. Dr Feelgood - made me want to dance for the first time in decades. Couldn't cope at all with Big Country or Slade. Without Stuart Adamson or Noddy Holder both bands seem pointless. The bloke Slade had singing sounded like a typical American rock singer, not right really. Big Country sounded ok but my memories and view of BC are bound up with Stuart. So see 'em while you can folks !
Yes . Ages ago I saw he was involved with an experiment ref heart rates etc ( Think he was wearing a mask ) .Can you please ask him what the outcome was ?
Blimey, Greensaint, Soft Machine.! That kind of takes me back more than most bands. Daevid Allen was in their line-up. Never got around to owning any Soft Machine, but I do have the three Gong albums from the Radio Gnome set, including said Mr Allen and Steve Hillage. They were probably even more blissed out than SM. One from each album then. First, from The Flying Teapot, The Pot-Head Pixies: Then, from Angel's Egg, Sold To The Highest Buddha: And Finally, from You, the short opener Thoughts for Naught:
Yeah, everyone likes Clannad. Just as everyone likes Enya. There's nothing to dislike. I think I'm right in believing that Enya is one of the richest musician/singers in the world simply because everyone buys her music constantly. She doesn't break any chart records or anything, but everyone from 10 to 100 buys her stuff. I think I've got something from her. I've got her Watermark album, I know that much: It's sort of music to watch Lord of the Rings by. I think the Celtic attraction has left me.
From one of the best albums ever made, Blue. Not a bum track on it. Joni Mitchell sings All I Want: Incidentally, when she sings, do you wanna dance with me [baby].., I always think she's referring to the Cliff Richard & Shadows song. But just maybe she isn't.
One of my all time favourites as well. I recall a few years back when we were listing our favourite albums I mentioned this one, and you had a head fit thinking I meant the band Blue! Here's another, and I think this one is definitely about Cary Grant, all the way from Horfield, Bristol:
