The Virgil Van Dijk Stays at Southampton Thread

Not news really...I think that's how Virgil's problems started. He'd agreed everything with Liverpool without permission before presenting the club with what he thought was a fait accompli.

Wouldn't we have liked to be a fly on the wall when Virgil met Les and told him that.

 

I also don't think Les needs any flack. He's between a rock and a place.

 

We have all been there. Your child throws a tantrum because she can't get her own way but if you give in you make things worse for yourself in the long run. It is hard but you have to stand your ground. What Les is doing is right but what it needs is for every other club to stand up to these agents and petulant players. Not all will because the top clubs are the ones that exploit it.

 

This. Les has been put in such a tough situation. Yeah it would maybe irk some people if we sold him to Liverpool now and I could understand that, but if anyone deserves stick and abuse from this episode, it's Virgil. He's treated us like **** and in complete contempt.

 

What I am more concerned about is the way in which that little **** Murphy has abused his position as a pundit on the BBC to further the commercial interests of his mate's agency. That is not what we pay our TV licence for.

I think Liverpool managed to actually report themselves, that's how daft/arrogant they were and why 250 pages later we're still regurgitating the same stuff

 

And for that reason, he must not be allowed to get his own way.

It's a free for all isn't it. VVD has been gone since Murphy et al have been selling him since 'they' decided that he was too good for us. It's getting worse the premier. league. Lets give them a league of five. I'm sure the pundits would love that.

 

I'd be delighted if the top 7 in England ****ed off to join a European league, we'd be champions of England every season...

Tried to read this, it went straight over my head, is there any chance it affects anything that the bindippers do?

 

I'd certainly be all for it, sometimes.

 

It would make our top league competitive and interesting with several clubs capable of winning it.

 

One reason that I would love for Virgil to still be here on Friday is to see all the pundits suddenly have to backtrack. They'd all start saying how we've done really well to keep him and that it's good that player power hasn't won. I'd love to see them all start to sweat when he hasn't moved.

I'd find it hard to believe that they will backtrack at all. The mantra will be all "can't understand what Southampton are doing" "keeping an unhappy player who won't play" etc

 

I can see it going either way really. I guess it will be interesting to see how many keep their stance and how many try and save face.

 

I guess it depends what VVD does, if he continues on and doesn't play then they will say we were idiots for not selling. If he comes back and starts playing close to pre injury then they will say what a great pro he is. I doubt we will get much of a mention
