Two days remaining and not much to show. I intensely dislike this brinkmanship that Spurs habitually practice.
The obvious question to ask is that, three or four seasons from now when we're settled in WHL2 and the increase in matchday revenues and various other deals come into effect, will we still be Levying until the last minute or will we be more proactive in the transfer market?
No no, I'm not expecting players like him. My point was that he was a complete unknown. What i'm getting at, is that the only deadline deals i think are viable, are one's we've previously been linked with and may already have got the ball rollling with behind the scenes. I.e Barkley. Who else is there that's still available who we've been strongly liked with? Diop and Balde are no go's now, right?
News coming out of France that Aurier won't receive a work permit before the deadline. Edit: Oh, and that Man United could gazump us! Brilliant.
From what I've read and seen from various journalists, there's never been any interest in Mahrez. It seems to be a section of Spurs fans praying that we get him, that's made the rumours seem stronger. As for Gray, I've seen bits here and there, but don't know if there's any weight behind that either.
Rumours that Leicester are in the market for a winger and Gray wants to play football and has been unhappy for some time at Leicester. He's very Spurs and should be affordable. The Aurier work permit thing sounds like 'Levying' and looking for discount.
There's a big difference between 'won't receive a permit before the deadline' and 'won't receive one at all'. I'm not too sure about the legalities of it but can't we sign him anyway and just wait for the permit to come through later. If, that is, we know that he is guaranteed to eventually receive one.
Diop just signed for Lyon and Balde is on the brink of doing so for Inter. The latter was never really an option as he stated from day one that he vastly preferred the food, women and climate in Italy and wanted to stay there. Renato Sanches is apprently available to be loaned from Bayern as Ancellotti is reluctant to sell outright but wants him to gain experience. That's a move we should be all over like a rash.
Knowing of his entry problems into the UK, we must have been tipped the wink that it'll be ok or it wouldn't have gone this far. I can't think that we'd be that naïve. So, a few days delay is meaningless. We can put him in our squads with no problems as we don't have 25 players or anything close to it. Bizarrely, you can register players who are registered to play for another club, so no problem there. Is this Levy trying to get a loan for the first season with an agreement to purchase next summer? A loan would mean any work permit issues are non-financial at our end and we get to spend the transfer fee on Sissoko MK II on deadline day.
Lemar and Meyer have been mentioned during the window. Demi Gray and Mahrez also had brief links. Josh King was an early target also. Wheels will be in motion though, I'm pretty sure of it mate. I'd say we'll have 3-4 new players in come deadline day. Foyth and Aurier being two of those.
Goodbye Kev. Sad that 2016-17 never worked out for you, given you did at least as well as Jan during your 2015-16 stint.
Both (if Levy is still chairman) . You can afford to get that next tier of players, but just because Spurs have more money does not mean Levy will allow sellers to take the p*ss on any transfer targets.
I don't see Lemar going anyhwere unless an even more ludicrous bid comes in for him. They've just rejected a 64.8M bid from Liverpool. Meyer is one i'd like to see join us, I think he's about the level we can realistically achieve and he ticks all the boxes. Josh King would be a decent addition and he's already proven in the premier league, but I think Bournemouth woul want way more than he's worth. Gray, quite possibly. Mahrez? I think he'll end up at Arsenal.
