We need someone of the Michael Carrick type; always sees the forward pass before he receives the ball.
If 'big lump of target man' is the way to go, there's a young man called W. Bony who doesn't get a look in at Manchester City.
Interesting. Great form at Swansea, and doesn't even play now does he? Wonder if Saints would consider. I remember him being incredibly strong on the ball, and held up well too.
Another player like Remy, who I'd have snapped your hand off for 12 to 18 months ago, but now have no interest in. It's one thing not being able to get into the City team. It's quite another not being able to get into the Stoke team. Swansea are welcome to bring him home.
What would be your primary reason? They both have/had something. But, I do wonder why they are appear happy (at least Bony) not to be featuring for their clubs. Seems a wast.
That's pretty much it. They both had something, hence why I used to want them. But do they still have it? For differing reasons, both have barely kicked a ball for two years. When you consider the high wages they are surely on at City and Chelsea (and thus potentially command at a new club), I have little interest in us trying to find out whether there is still something there. But if the club announced either of them tomorrow, I would support them. They'd have access to data etc that I don't.
It does seem crazy for a professional athlete to be content just to take the money, other than be part of something that is trying to achieve something, and to prove your worth against the best teams; even if it is playing for a Saints or West Brom etc. At least there is honour in that.
Remember watching this guy as a kid playing with Lampard and Cole for WHU against United at OT. The three of them were being hyped as the great hope of English football. I was there with my Man Utd supporting daughter. On the way home I asked her which one she'd like to see United sign. She replied "Carrick" without a moment's hesitation. Showed she knew something. Of course, many "Man Utd" fans who don't get out of the armchair have never quite got him. Great player, but there are few around with his qualities.
For the 10 year hype of "Gerrard or Lampard" or "play them together," I always said my first name on that England team sheet would have been Michael Carrick. Better than both of them.
How funny would it have been if Saints had announced a new signing at midday and none of us could have discussed it?
