    If I live to be 100 I doubt anything will ever beat those back to back promotion seasons.

    As one off occasions though, the San Siro and Wembley came close - and we lost both those games. There's still plenty to get excited about.

    I loved those promotions years...what is not to like...we were winning and, in general, our players wanted to stay because we were the big club. There are no promotion chances left....apart from getting into the European places. Fans have to grasp that sometimes you stand still or even drop a little...other teams have something to do with that....but it doesn't mean we should give up hope and spiral down. I have read other fans posts (usually on Saintsweb) and some seem to believe that a drop from 7th to 8th means we are doomed. Each season is a new opportunity. The main thing for us is to stick to our principles....which includes not spending money we don't have and not buying players who are 'quick fix plasters' too often (though there may be an occasion for it).

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...-adamant-virgil-van-dijk-will-not-sold-month/

    Telegraph saying Saints are adamant that they won't sell....which I believe has been our stance all along. There is the usual spanner in the works about how much VVD is worth and can we resist....he's always been worth that so no news there. Davis says that he would be welcomed back and says a lot has been written that isn't true...you shock me, Steven :) I think players know how these things work and are pragmatic about it....there will be some not happy, but I'm sure most of them don't take it personally.

    Here is a link to the full article the extract in that post was taken from;

    http://www.espn.co.uk/football/engl...eth-bale-turn-to-these-agents-for-their-deals

    It focuses on two of the leading sports agencies.
    Personally it reaffirms my view on agents and it feels clear what motivates them above all else

    The first two paragraphs aren't in that article though. They're just made up. All the BBC pundits are definitely not on Fewings' books.

    NO! The world has gone to the dogs. The media are making up stories. We need more critical thinking in schools and less sausage machine exam factory mentality. Course governments prefer a docile media swallowing public. Conspiracy theorists of the world unite! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

    Sorry, rant over. I am more than happy to see Virgil go for the right price to a proper big club (stand down, Liverpool) but would be ecstatic if he could munch his way through a little humble pie and return to the fold. But you know what, I really don't give a toss. We've started slowly, and might have expected a little better from our opening three games (and let's not mention the Wolves debacle) but this is still my club. Like others I loved that meteoric rise, but remember an old mate who was a Northampton fan who watched his team go up and down the divisions in double quick time. I'll take plateauing and sticking to principles.

    Do remember that at other clubs the manager is the most important link in the personnel chain. At Southampton they are just another important department head. So we can smoothly change managers because only the odd person here or there changes. There is no clean sweep of personnel. As for players, the manager can ask for any particular player all he likes, but if that player doesn't fit the Saints model it won't happen. So the ship sails on in the same direction. It's a smart business model.

    After watching Liverpool yesterday why would they want to buy VVD anyway? Question; For anyone who watched the game yesterday, how do you think the game would have gone if they were playing us?

    £75m? Interesting. Mind you, unless we have a couple of biggish signings set up already I doubt that would be accepted.

    The scousers on twitter today seem to think it's all done and dusted, based in the fact they have signed Keita. I've seen nothing to suggest so much as a bid has been made.

    Also worth adding that the Sun is probably the paper least likely to have any idea what's going on behind the scenes at Liverpool.

    Desperate attempt by the Sun to sell a few copies in Liverpool - which they won't.

    It has, however, reminded me that I have quite a lot of respect for the people of Liverpool over their refusal to buy that disgusting rag.
