That season we lost too many home games and that was the difference between going up and finishing 5th..If memory serves me right we lost 5 at home. Birmingham 0-1, Luton 0-2, Portsmouth 0-1, Oxford 0-1, and another one. Plus the infamous abandoned Blackburn game, leading 2-0 at h/t and coasting before the fog...Drew 0-0 in the replay..
I was 8 at the time .. I have a program from the Oxford game but for the life of me I can't remember it .. I do however remember the Stoke cup game when Banks pulled off a miraculous save from Waggy I think it was and Conroy kicked everything above grass .. strange how your memory works
So... 4 players incoming before the window shuts. What positions would you like to see covered? 1 striker, 2 wingers and a center back for me. With FC and Dio at the club id be happy to see 1 really good striker brought in and have FC & Dio off the bench or starting alongside the new guy. 2 wingers is vital, you need 2 players per position and Slutski sets up to play fairly wide, lots of runs down the wings, fullbacks overlapping, crosses coming in... we need wingers. finally a CB. We look a bit weak at the back, especially if we'll be playing with a back 3 at times...
as it is now we seem to leave our central striker very isolated I'd much rather have two strikers playing off each other I agree it can then be difficult having two wingers as well
I expect Dicko, Success, Irvine and that centre back on loan from Chelsea (or something similar). Toral can also play on the wing.
I'd usually agree with that Pete, however the three up top against Bolton looked lethal with their movement, and if they can put in consistent performances like that then I think they're likely to trouble much better teams than the Trotters
Very true, but if those three can possibly be kept it is definitely a formation I'd love to see used again.
If Grotiski is up for it, he'd tear most sides in this league with a new one. But he's got to be up for it.
The thing is with these strikers that can play out on the wing, they might have the pace to get past their man but the end product is usually lacking. An out an out winger would be nice. Someone with a decent cross on them.
I wouldn't forget about Keane, his pro record so far isn't sparkling and there's question marks over his knees, but he was very highly thought of at Man Utd, they hung on to him for a long time.
