Haha, it's not that bad. I just think something died in me that summer, maybe getting that little bit older aswell but it was kind of like a slap in the face of reality that we'd had hit our glass ceiling. It is probably why I've been very meh about all the players who have left whilst other fans get worked up about it.

I've enjoyed the seasons since and they have all in their own ways been good, but those initial Liebherr years from League One to the end of Poch era were brilliant and the belief then was the highest I'd ever seen from any fan base.

At a complete guess I'd say:

Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, West Brom, West Ham, Leicester, Palace do. Maybe Newcastle and Stoke aswell

I don't understand any Saints fan that doesn't feel a sense of satisfaction and pride at this moment in time. We are in the second most successful era in the club's ENTIRE history!. We are the best performing of any club of our size over the past five years (Leicester had one absolutely amazing season) and we can claim the title of being "best of the rest" and we have never had as many international players as we have now.
We are rightly lauded by the rest of the football world for our academy and scouting system and have a superbly successful infrastructure and facilities. I think personally it is only a matter of time before we win a major honour (cup) and we will be in Europe again before too long.
Ok. it's unlikely that we will be a permanent fixture in the CL or win the PL but that goes for the vast majority of the rest of the clubs in the country, we need to maintain some perspective as fans sometimes.

I am insultingly rude and offensive to someone who is probably a really nice bloke about his post and still I get likes. Please can we have a dislike button.

I think you might find that if you stop being rude then you'll stop getting those pesky likes

... a bit of a rock and a hard place eh?

    Does this help?

Good memory, Godders. Wasn't this a record at the time? No, not the old "I just dug up a 12inch round bit of plastic" sort of record, but it was a record fee for us, or Spurs or Martins or something I'm sure. Bloody dementia ...

Between you and me, I thought he was a bit ****. Channon was definitely better.

Yeah, yeah. All this "in the fullness of time" thing is fine. Except, to quote the magnificent Maggie Smith "I don't have time. I don't even buy green bananas" (Marigold Hotel)

Of course Spiderman is right; so too "Saints Alive" above. But I'm telling you now, if Saints "break through" just after I croak it I am going to be seriously pissed off and will haunt SMS for all time. You have been warned!

Serious question, with our defence looking fairly good without VVD, what if we pushed him further upfield? Does anyone else think he would be a good AM or even a striker?

Imagine the masterstroke if it worked and suddenly we can score goals again!

With his obvious ability on the ball and his speed and game reading he would make an excellent DM or even a good B-B midfielder.
Striker may be pushing it a bit too far

    Copied this from Facebook ......

This could explain all ex Liverpool players keenest to get Vvd sold..sold to anyone.
Niell Fewings of Wasserman's is still VvD's agent, despite the rumour he has changed his agent again.

Neil Fewings family are friends with Danny Murphy's family, they spend holidays together.
Fewings has got all Murphy's friends to sign for him, and in doing so Murphy's biggest employer is Wasserman's, not the BBC. All the BBC football pundits are on Fewings books.

Fewings represents Virgil van Dijk, who will get a huge contract this summer from Liverpool, or Chelsea, or maybe Manchester City.
Murphy has advised Van Dijk on how to get a transfer through the door at clubs. While Fewings trolls for interest, Van Dijk is being advised by a team of specialists about off-the-field possibilities. "You walk around the building, 150 guys on one floor," Baker explains. "The cream of the crop in terms of legal, finance, sponsorship. All the different kinds of expertise a player will look for throughout his career. And they're in-house."

That all happens inside the company's Soho headquarters, which resembles a hip ad agency. COO Ecvet's office is command control. One afternoon, he watches the names of England's latest selection scroll past on the Sky Sports crawl. He calls out Wasserman clients as they appear: "Bertrand ... Clyne ... Henderson..." In the end, there are seven. "We're normally a third of anything," he says. "A third of the sport is normally us.
"We've become really good friends," Fewings says. "His daughter and my daughter. His wife and my wife. We holiday together."

Murphy hasn't played since 2013, but his relationship with Wasserman remains lucrative. Fewings did the deal that made him an analyst for the BBC football show "Match of the Day." Murphy's byline also appears on a column in the Evening Standard newspaper. "We write that," Fewings reveals.

If I was Les Reed and knew that it would make me more determined than ever. Nothing wrong with being a big company as long as you don't think that puts you above moral considerations. The words 'hip' strike terror into me...all a bit 'Wall Street.'
