Oh man that's terrible. I feel for you. If you don't mind me asking how old are you?

    Stay strong.

The good thing, though you may not feel it now, is you're young enough to recover and get back on the saddle.

Lovely sunny day here and the chicken run has been assembled. It's been really hard work in the sun, so it's a good job that sister in law and her boyfriend came down to help. Just finishing the painting of the hen house now and boy is it hard work in this heat...

But you're not complaining. Neither am I. 25C outside and 32C indoors. Nice. ;)
Complaining will start when you've so many eggs you won't know what to do with them, or die of cholesterol poisoning [thank you Douglas Adams] if you do. Then, just when you want one, the hens'll stop laying.

Still, at least you won't be short of a Christmas dinner.

Jurors have been talking about the experience of serving in a trial that lasted 20 months. Apparently sitting for so long and not able to talk has changed them psychologically and they feel unable to communicate as they did before the trial. Two have struggled to get back into work...not because they have lost their job (that's illegal), but because they have changed. One even went to visit the court afterwards because it had become so much part of his life. It shows how life can change you....although they weren't being tortured, their brains had to adjust to coping with isolation and hearing things that they had to keep secret. The other jurors became like family. Interesting research project here.

I read that yesterday and thought it was fascinating. As they say, they need specialist counselling after such a long trial.

Anyone have home remedies for an ear infection? Been suffering since last Thursday and it's not getting better :( The right side of my face and gums are swollen which means that I can't sleep on that side so keep waking up, the ear is either itching or painful and I'm feeling very sorry for myself. I'm alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen but I'm not supposed to take many ibuprofen because of the diabetes. Any suggestions? Please?

There has been a fascinating series on the human brain on C4...showed how plastic the brain is. Repetition lays down new pathways (as in learning a new skill) so being unable to talk and move would increase your ability to sit quietly....that becomes your normal character. You could become changed for ever.

Yeah, there's a programme on this week about being in solitary confinement which should also be really interesting.

If it persists you need antibiotics to sort out the root cause. Shouldn't put anything in it in case you feed the infection. Have you seen a doctor?

Yeah, that's what I'm assuming - I get ear infections fairly regularly because I have eczema in my ear canal but this one is the worst and the longest lasting. Will have to try and make an appointment on Tuesday...

As your gums are swollen, could it be an abscess? Why not ask a pharmacist....there should be an emergency one open in your area.

I helped out at a street collection for my Cats Protection branch yesterday at a town near here which has high unemployment and disability rates and yet we raised over £180. What always amazes me is that it's older people who give so generously, often apologising that they can't give more. People who I assume have more money (I know that's a judgement and that I could be wrong) swan passed with their noses in the air as though it would be beneath them to donate to a charity. As I say to the apologetic pensioners, if every man, woman and child who passed me yesterday gave just 20p it would soon mount up. I don't mind the people who say that they don't like cats or only give to children's charities etc but it's those who look at me as though I'm dirt which get to me - obviously, it's a personal decision whether to donate or not but don't sneer at those who do volunteer for a charity.

Sorry, obviously that rant has been building :emoticon-0111-blush

No, I'm pretty sure it's not an abscess. I might pop into town tomorrow and speak to a pharmacist but have a feeling that only antibiotics will work...

Firstly, never ask advice from a bunch of football fans! (they are not doctors, well most of them) Secondly, if you have a problem with your gums it's coming from there. Get some really strong mouth wash, kill the bugs there and good things will follow xx
