I want him to be side lined for longer...as we will get money for him sometime, but he is beyond salvaging for Saints now. Have said for some time that I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team....he just isn't worthy. I would be disappointed if we gave in now, but wouldn't cry if the poisoned toad left....just not Liverpool under any circumstances.

Give in or not we will always be a mid table club unless something dramatic happens.

We will end up like a Villa or a Newcastle in that we will go down at some point and then we will see how we deal with it at the time.

Personally I think VVD will go next week, my position has always been the same. I think somebody will match whatever our valuation is close to the end of the window

So you have exactly the same attitude as the football media.

I would have agreed with you a year ago, but important things have changed at the club since then. Firstly, we are debt free for the first time since getting promoted and we have fresh investment from new owners. We have no debt to service, therefore are in a position to refuse offers for our players. I will wait and see how it plays out, but my feeling is that the club want to do things differently from now on.

You're a football supporter. For 90 minutes per week minimum you live apart from the real world, where irrational things are possible.

Oh I'm sure they want to do things differently but it is incredibly hard to do so. I'm sure they will keep VVD if nobody matches their asking price, but my feeling is somebody will, I may be wrong though.

The bottom line for me is unless we get serious serious investment, but then UEFA would penalise us for FFP anyway, we won't ever be a top side in the PL

Yes irrational things are possible in a 90 minute game. They are possible over the course of a season, ask Leicester, but they are incredibly rare and a lot of things out of your control have to go in your favour.

I am not a blinkered fan in that I can see just how far behind the actual big clubs in this league and how it is pretty much impossible for us to close the gap.

Don't have to be blinkered, you just have to be optimistic. Otherwise, what is the point.?

Tbf I have been asking myself that since the first mass exodus a few seasons ago. I have become more of a footballl fan in that time rather than a supporter of Saints.

Well, as you probably know, I haven't been a fan of elite football since the start of the Premier League. But Saints saved my life about 16-17 years ago when I was at my lowest point, and I have been a supporter from age 7. At the very least, I've always kept an eye out for them. So I know the ups and downs of the club. Back in the early-mid 80's, the club were a match for anyone on the pitch, but had little infrastructure and true ambition. At the moment, SFC are the closest they have ever been to breaking through the glass ceiling, and the management and infrastructure is all there to make the next step.

Unfortunately, other clubs want to make next steps too, but we just have to make them faster and smarter.

Christ, your mr happy aren't you. Leicester? Yep, I know, different team, won't ever happen again, etc but I for one, always live in hope that we've got a chance of winning every single game & that we are progressing as a club, even if in the moment, it may not seem that way.

This is just about the ****tiest phrase ever uttered. I live in a very real world but it is probably nothing like yours and the same probably applies to everyone else who posts on these threads. It is a phrase used by self centred egotists who believe they know the one real world. Thankfully there is no such single thing.

I don't think it's a question of happy or sad. It's a question of hope and belief. SFC has never been stronger, off the field, so my belief is probably as high as it has ever been. I think that it is possible for other supporters to not recognise that and not find any belief from it. Saints, on the pitch, have been stronger in years past, even in the past couple of seasons perhaps, but they've never been healthier or more determined to win things. That's the upwards trend continuing.

Blimey mate. Keep away from anything sharp.

Since the mass exodus we've finished 7th, 6th, 8th and got to Wembley. Real life is ****.

So people actually think we will stand firm on VVD for the entire window and then sell him at the very end when we have no time to reinvest 70 odd million?

We have said he is staying; in my mind it is, and has been for a while, clear that he is staying.

Yeah this sums it up pretty well. It isn't me not believing in the club wanting and trying to get to that next level. It is that I think it is impossible for any club to make that step unless you get a Sheik Mansour/Abramovich.
