'cos they've only just come up, so can't be that good and we're the mighty Southampton who've been up for 5 years or so ...
Okay, to sum up: the result was decent and we defended well. We struggled to join up midfield to attack. We transition very poorly and it really needs looking at. We actually played better with Long on the pitch and should think about hi replacing Redmond and trying two up top. We desperately need to spot the runs being made. Tadic and Redmond were just plain awful. Substitutions were crazy.
Absolutely. But then again, it depends what your aims are. For example, relegation doesn't even enter me mind for us. So my measurement of us isn't against that. I'm sure there aren't many Arsenal fans saying "could be worse, we could be Palace".
Might have to go and bump my De Boer comments from last month...... He is doing exactly what I expected.
I honestly can't believe the negativity on here today. That was a good point against a useful side who have had a great start to the season. Yes, there were some disappointing aspects: our failure to score despite some decent chances, and our midfielders not realising we actually have a striker making runs. The defence did OK against a physical attack, and Forster made one howler but was otherwise sound. JWP should have had a pen, the defender trod on his standing foot as he was cutting inside, and that late free kick by him was superb. Lemina was brilliant, both in defence and attack. All in all, another slightly frustrating outcome to a highly entertaining game!
Only caught the second half but the passing (from both sides) was woeful at times and we seemed to want an eternity on the ball to do nothing with it. That said, we were/ are a through ball away from getting it right. So not all negative and still undefeated!
Points on the board are the main thing. And two games with clean sheets. We can build on that and I'm certain that we will.
we've conceded 14 goals in our last 14 league games Forster OUT! -------------------------------- The big man did well today. One brain fart, but don't ignore the good.
Indeed. As I said yesterday, I wouldn't be expecting Boufal to actually do anything (although obviously I hope he would) - but I do struggle to see how it is fair that Tadic and Redmond get opportunities galore, whilst Boufal gets 15 mins here and there. The two of them really haven't been good enough to command such regular, extended game time. With our current squad, either we give Boufal a proper go or - probably my preferred option - we change formation to give Gabbi a partner.
One important part missing here Brendy.... what is your measurement against, and what is your expectation? It's all well and good criticising things and those of us who choose to be more patient (or whatever you want to call it), but you haven't actually said what you expect. Then we may be able to judge your view against your expectations.
