Oh wait, I've got another one.

Type your email address into here to find out what your recycled password has been up to.

Except that it's now appeared on the web so may well be in a password dictionary soon. Remember, they only need to store the hashes (ignore if not technical).

For really important stuff I use a version of diceware. To create a password you throw a die five times (or use the genunely random die thrower at https://www.random.org/dice/ ). The number that comes up gives you a word from a list. Bung five of those together and you have something that's easier to remember than most passwords and will take an eternity to crack. A password thus might be W9&realsmithtypewalleach. The W9& can be common to all your passwords without hitting the crack time very much at all or you can vary them and render yiour passwords pretty much uncrackable ever. The W9& (or whatever) hit cap letter, number non-printable character needs.

However, I've also come across a new idea suggested by Gibson Research that allows for very short passwords that you turn into long passwords. So a password might be "4Kylie$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o - even though it's easy to remember (for Kylie, love her $o much x 10), it's damned hard to crack, because its length is combined with the fact that even though it does have a pattern, as a guesser you're stuck trying to get every character.

    Whatever you do, avoid: 123456, 123456789, qwerty, 12345678, 111111, 1234567890, 1234567, password, 123123, 987654321, qwertyuiop, mynoob, 123321, 666666, 18atcskd2w, 7777777, 1q2w3e4r, 654321, 555555, 3rjs1la7qe, google, 1q2w3e4r5t, 123qwe, zxcvbnm, 1q2w3e (the top 25 of 2016)

    Anyway, stay paranoid!

    Vin

The Arctic region is a pristine zone. Not that environmental pollution of certain air and water borne kinds has any manners, that is certain airborne types don't go 'ooh, I mustn't go there cos it's pristine'. The prevailing winds come from the poles, so the pristine tends to stay pristine unless you provoke it with undue activity. However, pollution is borderless. For example, ships drag marine pollutants and polluters inside and outside their hulls too.
Russia has an enormous northern coastline and ports, which they'd like to use all year round, if possible. One could get all environmentally idealistic, but I can hardly blame them for utilising what has become possible. Basically, us 1st worlders are all to blame for warming the planet.

EDIT: I will stop these age jibes. Being of the same generation as you, I was always told to respect my elders ;)
