Exactly what I said - we got bigger crowds in the bottom division than in the Premier League. There's no expansion needed, it couldn't be any clearer.

I'm sure money and the evolution of modern football have something to do with that, the demographic has switched massively and enticing the working classes to games in the 50's and 60's is entirely different to encouraging middle class families to turn up now.

Its just sad that we had the support and potential there but over the years its has been lost, probably to never be recovered.

Yes we did. I sat in 20k crowds in the bottom division, we had attendances under 20k in the Premier League.

The crowds dropped off because the club didn't grow or show any real ambition. Even during Carters days when a 40,000 crowd was the norm it was quickly realised that the club were not serious in their attempt to get much higher then the old Division 2. Repeat the same when Harold Needler passed away and again when we finally reached the PL. That was a season long fight against relegation. To be brutally honest City have never won anything or even looked like winning anything until just recently so why would 30,000 turn up every week just to watch the grass grow ?
I believe in the old saying 'build it and they will come'
That is on and off the field.

You won't admit it it but it's obvious why you're arguing with this...

Chazz - why after incorrectly arguing did you then edit my post as if to make a point when what I said was completely, 100%, indisputable FACT?

Because, to me, it reads we got bigger crowds all the time in div 4. We didn't.
So yes we got a few bigger crowds in the fourth and third. But overall no.

Why did you read it like that when I didn't say it?

In our last season in the bottom division we had 10 home attendances that were bigger than we got in at least 2 Premier League games last season.

They Don't have problems in other places. Crowds nationally are at their highest for over 60 years.

It didn't read that way to the more astute amongst us.

    Which is what I said.

Remember years ago when the likes of Sunderland and Leicester brought 3,000 lads and we took a busful to their place, even though we were getting 20,000 at the time? We used to say if we had time in the top flight we would be similar and have 3,000 lads bouncing about? Sunderland and Leicester hadn't had any success in their lifetime, it was handed down in what were football cities. Of course success to us came too late to replicate the scenes on the terraces of their supporters but we won't have 40,000 crowds at home and sell out the away allocations for a few seasons of struggle places like Sunderland and Newcastle do. I always thought a bit of success would show what a massive footballing city Hull is. It is in respect of local leagues, people packing pubs to watch internationals etc but not so much in turning up and paying for games. This was the case before the Allams took over.

    The Allams drove supporters away.

From a full coach arriving from Filey, picking up on the way .

To a coach with under 30 fans arriving at the kc

    Seat moves
    No concessions for kids
    No concessions for pensioners

Having being running for 71 seasons the coach is no more.

Blame the stinking Allams for our poor support at present

They haven't helped, and are largely responsible for turning away a lot of fans and potential fans, but they are not 100% responsible, just 85% or so.
It is sad about the Filey bus, I know people who went on it for donkey's years.

    Beg to differ.
Sunderland and Leicester are from one club football cities.
Sunderland had won the FA Cup twice and twice being runners up. They were a First Division side up to 1958, and when we played them in 1970 they were still known as 'England's 6th most successful club'.
Leicester had been Div 2 Champions twice, FA Cup Finalists and had just spent 10 years in the old First Division when our paths met in the early 70's.
Hull City had won the 3rd Division title and nothing else.
The size of the clubs away support in those days is reflected in the three clubs honours lists.
It always surprised me that City got the crowds we did when, 1967/68, 16th best supported club in the country for example, when we had won so little compared to everyone else on that list.

Leicester has the best supported rugby club in the country. In many seasons it gets biggers crowds than both rugby clubs from Hull put together.
None of the lads rampaging about in the early 70s will have had any recollection of their successes. They would have had to been older than we are now to recall them winning anything.

just seen a group of HFC fans waiting for their coach on Greenwood Avenue, looked like the 'one game a season' crew...Most of them already blathered. Should be fun.
