This is why we won't be in for a shout for the PL. Our results will be too inconsistent to put in a proper challenge for the title. However, i think we have enough attacking quality to challenge for the Europa, which would be a fantastic trophy to pick up.
True. Although I think Wenger will play a second string for the Europa games. If we get through to the KO stages, then I think it might be a different story. Would be a good trophy to win, our European record is poor for a big club.
Here are my new Season expectations.. 1. Wenger will make his substitutions after the 65th minute for every game for the rest of the Season. On field events wont effect or influence this. 2. We will see our fullbacks playing in CB positions, while our midfielders play as fullbacks. 3. I expect we will go through a run of losses/poor performances in November then again in late Feb. 4. Will finish strongly and most likley finish top four. 5. I expect we will try to go back to a 4-2-3-1 at some point in the Season.
I reckon Wenger will prioritise CL places and a cup, i do hope that cup is the Europa as it is the best competition we can go for this season. We are one of the favourites to win the Europa cup.
Looking at the list of sides in the comp. In many ways I dont think its any harder to win than the FA Cup.
We have the highest coefficient in the europa. We should be favourites currently and then we will see who drops down from the CL. I'd really like to see us take it seriously. In the group stages we should be able to top our group with squad players playing and then we will likely get a last 32 game we should win. If none of the really big teams drop down from the CL I think we have a very good opportunity to go and win the trophy.
A bad season-finishing below Spuds A good season-finishing above Spuds and me getting off the bottom of the prediction league An excellent season-a good season plus any of a top 4 place, the FA cup retained, the Europa cup or the Carabao (wtf???) cup My expectation? Somewhere between good and excellent
It should be tougher than the FA cup with potential landmines coming from CL dropouts, as Cini points out. But we have a good chance of winning with the squad we have if we take it seriously and should be more fun than the CL. At least we won't have to meet Barca and Bayern in our annual CL meets.
Yeah I'm quite looking forward to the europa league games against new opposition. Hopefully it's just for this season though!
Yes it should be fun. But it will also gauge at what level we are in Europe. I'm hoping for a positive outcome.
I've just posted a thread on it. Our group isn't too demanding and Wenger has the knowledge to navigate us without too much incident.
