  1. We've been blessed with great keepers prepared to play 2nd fiddle over the past few years. And be great club servants into the bargain.
Brad was excellent and is now an Ambassador, and MV would walk into virtually any other PL team. And his commitment to the club and his teammates at the infamous Battle at the Bridge, didn't go unnoticed! <applause>

It's not easy keeping good goalkeepers happy. Lloris get huffy if he misses out, Vorm is impatient for games and Gazza has just arrived on a 5 year deal and wants to play. We always knew Vorm, whilst happy at the club, would be interested in a move if it guaranteed him regular games.

If one leaves - who would be in line to be our 3rd keeper (Austin/Whiteman) and would he be good enough if needed?

I wouldn't begrudge Vorm the move, to be honest. He's done a respectable job and made no waves while waiting.
Not asking you to speculate, but we've been linked with two keepers in this window, IIRC.
I'm sure everyone's aware of the Pau Lopez saga, but the only other one that I can think of was Freddie Woodman.
The Newcastle youngster was England's goalie at the U20 World Cup. Looks decent.

Newcastle also have Tim Krul sitting around doing nothing, for some reason.
No squad number and he was out on loan last season. 1 year left on his contract.
Might be worth a punt if he's willing to bide his time on the bench, I guess.

Pointing out an obvious flaw in your comparison: all major Serie A clubs have a ton of players out on loan, as there's no reserve football in Italy so it's the only way they're ever going to play. That's why Juve, Inter, Napoli and Fiorentina all have over a dozen players out on loan while Milan and (although in the case of Inter or Juve, a couple of dozen is closer to the actual figure)

O Jogo are reporting that the reason our interest in Pereira waned was because the €25m release clause in his contract was only up to July 15th, and after that it increased to €37.5m (or, to put it another way, a 50% hike)

They're also claiming that there has been no formal bid from either us or Juve, which ever so slightly contradicts The Torygraph's claim we put in a £15m bid.

This is the point I bring up the fact that Cancelo was available...

Yes, that's what I'm saying. They buy to loan as a culture. We don't. For the most part English football hasn't and still doesn't very much at all compared to the Italians. It's on the up but very minor in comparison.

A similar culture of mass loaning has existed in this country for years, even though our having reserve football means it makes less sense. A cursory look at the number of loans that Kane, Townsend, Mason or Caulker had in the Redknapp/AVB years demonstrates this, while the regular loans of Falque and Khumalo also show we were happy to sign players and loan them out endlessly.

    Better than Lloris? No way.

Hugo makes mistakes but by far he's the best Spurs keeper for many a year.

I didn't say he was better, but good enough for regular first team goalkeeper.

To be fair, he was a very good no.1 keeper before he came our way. He's arguably the best no.2 in the league.

To quote John Harvey-Jones: people who don't make mistakes are no bloody good at all.

Makes sense. Should've gone on loan last season. And Onomah.

Glad to see we're restoring some faith in the loan system.

I can't believe how badly Lloris was criticised by Spurs fans for days over the mistake on Sunday. People are very quick to forget the heroic saves he's made over the years. He's not perfect, but it's like they'd rather have Walker or Gomes in goal. <doh>

Kane is a better GK than Kyle Walker.

CCV's loan to Sheffield is basically a sign of Foyth is done.

Just reading that the Blades play a similar system to us, with a back 3 and wing-backs. Seems like a sensible move for CCV <ok>
