Italian Peroni is very good. The red label one. Poretti also good as a session lager.

I don't like the way Peroni comes in a vase. Maybe that clouds my judgement though.

Oh in Britain it's terribly overpriced and yes, served in some sort of vase. But in Italy. Good.

Disappointed with Peroni when I tried it. Some places charge ridiculous amounts for it as well.

Me and our lass struggle to get for a meal these days. Having the little one and all that. Drove down Newland and prinny the other day and passed restaurants I hadn't seen before.

But, I'd recommend le crepier papin for casual bistro style French food. Good tasting no frills stuff.

    Always enjoyed Marrakesh.

And I agree with kempers on the Aegean. The meze would satisfy even the biggest of appetites. Food just keeps coming!

Hadn't seen that post when I wrote mine. A lot of beers, and other things, taste better when on holiday than they do here,

For the first 30 years I was here, Canadian beer was absolutely crap - maybe only 5 or 6 breweries and everything tasted the same.
Fortunately many of the pubs/restaurants had both bottled/draft British, German & Danish imports. In the last 15 yrs quite a few micro breweries have started up, some pretty decent stuff to be honest. I still tend to drink British or German - Tetleys, John Smiths, Spaten etc. Oh aye, throw in Guinness occasionally. Moretti (Italian) is excellent on very hot days after a round of golf.

Go on them, Kemps, I've been well served; why would you go to an Italian for a meal, unless you are obliging the oppos?

Also try Anchor Steam Go West IPA (from San Francisco, and I've had it there actually, but they also have it at Fruit in Hull) Really nice beer
I've also had Arrogant Bastard Ale (!) in Fruit too which is American, but that's all I can remember about that (good night though!)

Spaten for me at the moment. Used to drink Lowenbrau regularly until the Canucks started brewing it here on license and made it as bland as their other ****e.
Switched to imported Spaten, which is another Munich Brewery - decent beer.

Crap food or just the flavours didn't do it for you?

Been a few times and always had a tagine of one sort or another. They do for me.

Had a tagine, and normally love that type of food, but it didn't taste of much and was really fatty
Heard really good things though so was maybe just a one off
