Long story but last season I could take my son (then 5) to a game if my father was too ill to go (could exchange his season ticket for a childâs match day ticket free of charge). Just tried to do this for the Wigan game and the policy this year is to charge full price when exchanging tickets i.e. £17.50 for a child. I told my son after this game he wonât be able to go the next time his granddad is ill as the Swans are being greedy and want you to pay twice for the same seat (the seat will stay empty in future out of principle). His reply âif the swans are being greedy, can I have a man utd top and support them insteadâ I know Swansea are not obliged to exchange tickets, free or otherwise, but this is sheer greed and really only affecting kids â if an adult season ticket holder cant make a game another adult can go in their place without anyone being any the wiser. The same attitude prevailed when we were last in the top flight. I had a good relationship with some players and a number of people behind the scenes when we were in the lower divisions. The climate immediately changed when we were promoted (not with the players). People with whom I had been on first name terms with for years suddenly became unapproachable and aloof when we did meet, which was not often as they were "too busy" or "unavailable". It was unbelievable! The high and mighty demeanour they immediately adopted was pathetic and shabby in the extreme. I won't go into the details but it reflected badly on the club - the worrying thing was that they didn't seem to care. The only comparison I can draw is the old adage about the "nouveau riche" who, unlike people born to affluence, have no idea of how to behave when they come into money. I suspect that, now we are in the heady realms of the Premier League, quite a few people at the Liberty have grown above themselves. Well, a word of warning. Times are good now but things can change - as they did before. Treat the fans badly and they will, like the lad above, seek another club to support. Grow up, whoever is responsible for this, it shows a complete lack of class.
Agreed.......... but the re-sale of that ticket would put more money in our coffers and is (maybe not in STID's case I'm sure) just deserts for the nouveu plasteecs who bought season tickets just to see the big clubs down here. There has to be a happy medium...... perhaps a 50% rate would seem fair. Bottom line is, when the sun shines the board will try and make hay. I agree the club has to keep one on the future swans fans though ..... STID, I hope he changes his mind about his decision to chose Man Ure!
swimaway, the club cannot re-sell that ticket. As I understand the situation, that place has been bought for the season by the holder (granddad). The club are trying to cash in by demanding that his grandson should pay for the privilege of sitting in a seat that has already been paid for. Contemptible, cheap behaviour by the club and, as I said, shows no class whatsoever.
To be honest that is terrible, I would go to the Post on this one, and shame them into allowing this, I let a friend's son go to the Leeds game a few seasons ago in league instead of me, there was no charge! And lets be honest here they would get more than an adult paying for a matchday ticket for the game, this sounds like greed to me!
so pissed off at this even though its not me that I have sent an email to the club, with a link to this thread!
Can he not just go in with the adults ticket any how with out telling the club. If you have a child's season ticket is the reverse possible then and swap it for a full paying adult ticket. Is it the club or the stadium management team making the decisions.
Just shows what happens when you try and play by the rules - you inevitably get shafted. I'd just use the ticket and hope it isn't queried on the gate. In my experience they usually aren't.
CARE ! - In my experience (in family stand ) they are. (may just be a job's worth on the turnstile - usually go via same one , and usually same person on it)
I went down today and got told the following, please don't shoot the messenger as what they said may be well a load of tripe in the eyes of the law. 1. They want 48 hrs notice 2. If you have a child season ticket and want to have an adult ticket you must pay the full adult price 3. If you have an adult season ticket and want to have a childs ticket you must pay the full child price 4. You must surrender the season ticket you are up or down grading and then in person collect it after the game has been played. So if you wanted to have an adult seat for the Sunderland game because a child can't go then you couldn't go before the Wigan game because they'd take the season ticket off you and not give it back until after the Sunderland game thus meaning the child wouldn't have the season ticket for the Wigan game !!! They said it was Premier League rules, personally I think it's disgraceful and taking the pi55 out if the fans
Nothing new. Clubs are always ripping off fans so that they can pay players extortionate wages. Players partly to blame for demanding so much money.
I believe that the obscene amounts paid to players in wages is the SOLE cause of escalating costs to the fans. Why we hero worship them God only knows. They offer no loyalty to club or fan other than for the term of their contract. As soon as that draws to a conclusion their greedy paws are held out for more and if they don't get it, they b****r off to somewhere where they can. OK, market forces, human nature and all that but we have a lot to thank Sky Broadcasting for, I don't think. That money could be used at grass roots level to help young kids; sponsor club academies; subsidise ticket prices; improve the infra-structure at less well off clubs etc etc ad nauseum. But oh no. As soon as players/agents realised the amount of money that was coming into the game, they set their stall to grab as much of it as they could, irrespective of the damage that it would do to the game, the clubs and the community. An argument could be made that the super stars might be worth the money they earn. The problem is the knock-on effect, where we see distinctly average players being paid telephone number wages when their ability probably only warrants being paid a small fraction of what they receive. And don't insult me with that stupid argument about it being a short career............ To be honest, I believe that the game needs some big clubs to go belly up. Almost certainly the reason will be inflated transfer fees and wages. Perhaps then football will come to its senses and be all the better for it. Rant over.
Guys, all i can say is i agree with everything said. my bleoved club or stadco are taking the pee. notgood enough.
If I was in that situation i'd just go in with the tickets as they are. If anybody on the turnstiles stops you then go to the next one and so on. I can't imagine anyone will stop you though. I also agree, it's absolutely horrible and a piss take to say the least.
Couldn't agree more Ivor! I'd just take him through on the adult ticket, most at the turnstiles are not going to be pedantic over this issue, of a grandson having his grandfathers ticket, I wouldn't bother escalating it up to club officials, wast of time, just common sense at the end of the day!................ please log in to view this image
It's not ideal but it's what comes with being a Premier League club - it's all in their guidelines if you head on over to their website and have a look. If we didn't keep to those rules then we'd get hit with a fine so there is not a lot the club or stadium can do about it sadly.
Most fans (not all) don't care about grassroots football. If you really want to help grassroots football and the kids, then there is an easy way. Go to less swans matches, spend less on Swans kit and use the money to help the kids. Also, give some of you time to help them. It's all very well saying they need help, but most fans would rather give their hard-earned cash to rich footballers. I admire footballers for the way they are able to get high wages, so if that's what they want to do, then good for them. But I think fans should either pay up and quit complaining about ticket prices, or do something about it i.e. boycott matches. If enough fans stop going to matches then prices will come down. You can't have it both ways. At the moment there are enough fans happy to pay the prices, and that's how a market economy works.
