Maybe he's seen the light

 

I don't even think we need to expect him to be a great professional. If it's September and he's still a Saint, we merely need him to have some sense of the consequences of not playing to the best of his abilities, namely the bit where it'd all but guarantee that he won't see a move to a CL team in his near future.

 

I don't have faith in him being a great professional....a few bad performances and he gets dropped and remains on the payroll. Not refused to play, but still doesn't have to. I believe that he intends to make the situation so untenable that he will get a move in January. Mauricio....this man is not trustworthy.

 

If he makes the situation untenable, what sort of move is he going to get? There won't be any clubs waiting with huge sums to throw at a player whose performances were bad enough to see themselves dropped. It's not really a matter of trust, beyond trusting that he's not so stupid as to commit to severely damaging his future prospects.

 

It's not just what he does on the pitch though. It'll unsettle others in the squad for different reasons. Same with us and Couthino. No manager wants a 'rotten apple'. I still think Couthino will leave if the right offer comes in.

I don't condone the behaviour at all.....players need to think long and hard about signing long term contracts for more money. I guess greed blinds them.

 

If I had an ID name that spelled out KKK, I'd change it just so there was no misunderstanding or offence taken anywhere.

 

Those close clubs will probably just think they can get him cheaper.

 

Don't give me the thumbs up fella, I just made a point. I have had my name pulled apart on your board with zero room for manoeuvre - I've read it through. First time I read your ID, it made me think that having those letters could be misconstrued.... I just thought I'd check and make the point and yes, that point was partly related to what's been said on your board about me. I don't know you and so I don't know what else could be in your name and haven't said that is why you have it.

All you have to say is "no mate, that's just a coincidence." To someone married to a Jamaican, that stood out to me, but you just launch straight into to your pre-conceived views. Well done.

People on Twitter genuinely believe that van Dijk's friend's cryptic Instagram posts mean that he's leaving

 

Could it be that his mate is more likely to get his move now that they've qualified for Champions League proper? E.g. Liverpool more likely to pay up the extra £'s to get us to reconsider our 'not for sale' stance? Still think he's gone, think the board are just presenting that he's not to keep fees of incoming players down.

 

You don't need to be on the same team to unsettle players in the age of text messaging and WhatsApp groups. I doubt having him at Liverpool telling all our players how good life is at a big club will be particularly helpful either.

 

Cheaper, but not cheap. 40m might be a bargain for VVD, but will teams like that actually spend that sort of money on a player who hasn't performed in, by that point, over a calendar year? A lengthy injury layoff, followed by a row with the team, followed by a lengthy period of underperformance isn't likely to make him a hot commodity. Generally, they're quite happy to pay a premium to get players who have performed and are performing, because that's the luxury given their available resources.

 

You're assuming that he is viewing things calmly...I think he's stewing on this and feels hard done by. His reputation as a talented CB will be unaffected by a drop off in form...most people will just assume that he doesn't want to be here. And if you are good enough, you can get away with bad behaviour. It will probably be us as the losers if his price drops, but he will still get his move.

 

His agent won't like that as he wants the money and he's the one who does the thinking anyway.

The convo went like this between agent and VD:
May 2016:

Agent: "Hey VD, Saints offered you an extension on your contract - take you up to 6 years, and a nice pay rise for you (and me)"

VD: "But I don't want to play for them for 6 years. I want more money over the next few years"

Agent: " Yep, me too, this is why you have to sign it. You and I get more money now, and in a year you have a high resale value so we get a higher % of the transfer fee and then you can move for mega bucks and we get ANOTHER pay rise. Good eh?!"

VD: "Let's go for it. There is no way Saints will stop me from leaving"
