I wouldn't just blame forster. (Although I don't tend to watch the keeper). Lacklustre midfield for the second, awful marking for the first. Dare I say - we were very complacent. No pace, movement, urgency. One off hopefully.
How was boufal tonight? Expect he will be benched anyway on Saturday whilst others get chance after chance.
I am wrong about everything, so here's why this was literally a 100% certainty. Sorry for what is about to follow but I have thought this about the League Cup for a long time. Firstly, Wolves are quite good. But mainly, no one cares about the flipping League Cup. Puel got to the final last year, sacrificing much, and it made precisely zero difference to him getting sacked. We don't get any money for it, players don't get paid more for winning it (or losing the final). No one watches it. Clubs in Euro competition get in at the last 32 of a competition with 92 teams in. I'm not saying we deliberately lost, just that incentives matter, and MP won't be having a chat without coffee with Les tomorrow.
Nope him and Tadic by far the worst. Boufal close behind. Forster just offers no confidence at all the way he is playing.
Terrible. He just gives the ball away. I don't think English football is right for him, he's an absolute luxury but without the end product. Has serious work to do before he's the finished article
I remember a few on here were creaming themselves when we signed him, saying he was the dogs bollocks. They were half right , hes shown hes total bollocks so far.
You never want one of your players to fail, particularly an attacking flair player who you have spent a fair bit of money on (albeit hardly stupid money). But unless we're 3-0 up, I don't really want him coming on in a league game. Too much of a risk that we'd effectively be reducing ourselves to ten men (numerous times I have wanted us to re-sub Boufal off). So non-league games like today are so important for him. For him to therefore underperform again...
I quite liked the idea of Boufal, but he desperately needs to find ways to contribute that don't involve him dropping deep, getting the ball, and then squaring up his man from 40 yards out.
Worse thing about today, the formation. We haven't got the players to do it and it showed. Wolves just over ran us with ease. So please 4-2-3-1 from now on, no back 3 rubbish.
I hear comments about us getting a really good win on sat against West Ham. We let a 2 goal lead slip to 10 men and got lucky with a penalty in the last minute. I'm not doom mongering but it's not been a blistering start. I'm most angry at VD, we needed him.
Kind of get why Pellegrino would use a Cup game to experiment though. Positive in this game may be he already knows that the formation won't work with our personnel.
