The Virgil Van Dijk Stays at Southampton Thread

I know Virgil is a great CB and probably our best player (with Gabbi vying for that spot) and we don't want to lose him, but isn't the Liverpool's fans obsession with him way over the top. He isn't the answer to all their prayers....they probably have other areas they could do with improving...and there are other good CBs in the world (at a fraction of the cost).

 

I find it a little bit sad how that once great club who had a tradition of scouting, producing and developing great players in their heyday now rely on other clubs to to do that. It's not as if buying from us has done them much good anyway, they haven't won their holy grail of the PL and have only just scraped into the CL.

 

But as they keep telling us......this year is their year

 

Les buggered it a bit only yesterday when he said that high quality CBs were thin on the ground. He should have said 'there's plenty more where he came from.'

 

Think that was a dig at Liverpool...accentuating that VVD isn't available.

 

Are you sure you're not making too much of what Sir Les says.?

Personally, I don't think he has a 'dig' in him. Even for Liverpool. I almost wish he did.

 

We just don't play him, dont pay him. Refusal to play is breach of contract, we should be within our rights to not pay him or allow him to use training facilities.
He can rot and leave on a free in 6 years for all I care!

 

They actually don't need a CB as much as they need an effective defensive system.

 

The thing you have to remember with Liverpool is that every year is a transition year

 

You'd think they would remember what kind of a year Lovren had after he left us for them.

 

Like When they plucked Alan hansen from Partick Thistle and Gary Gillespie from somewhere like Falkirk.

 

That's exactly my point, they scouted, coached and developed them into great players, much like we do now.

 

Are you trying to tell me that standing in your own little space (they may call it a zone) at a corner, whilst looking at the views, isn't a good defensive system?

Last season is a total wipe out if we don't go through tonight. Also with guaranteed CL football, the transfer market may look different from our point of view. Huge game.
