Whilst driving home this evening i heard an interview on Radio 5 lives's drive program with Tony Fernades about his take over of Qpr. I have to say i was very impressed by him. He came across very sensibly, spoke with reason, passion, intelligence and seemed a very genuine man. On top of that he was honest to say QPR would have to be run as a viable business but that he really thought that with his business success with Asia Air, Caterham Cars and his experience in Formula 1 he could replicate that at Qpr and take them to the next level. He showed a sense of humour when asked about his love of West Ham but in that interview you could sense his drive and understand why he is so successful. I have to say that he ticked all the right boxes and i was left with a distinct thought of how different our clubs prospects would be if he had come knocking on Watford's door instead of Qpr's. They would it seems be in very capable,in the safe hands of some one who can communicate very well. Lucky Qpr
i saw him interviewed at the weekend...and i have to agree with you. He came across extremely well, and seemed so ready for the challenge..and more..he seemed to understand what he was taking on!
He is reputed to have paid £100m for a 51% stake in the club. That means that the club is worth almost double that. I find that very hard to believe when you compare that with the worth of Watford.
Allowing for the fact that Loftus Road being in West London will be worth considerably more than the Vic, The value of Premier League football and the fact that their playing staff in transfer value terms will be worth a lot more than ours i can understand they are worth a lot more than us but.... we do have a lot to offer some one being in the London area etc i don't understand our apparent worthlessness compared to other clubs
The figure came from Ecclestone who is supposed to have turned down £80m and said that he valued his stake at £100m.
Hang on a minute folks. Can we separate the pantomime from the sensible? Firstly Fernandes has bought 66% of the club for an undisclosed ........... I would go with Roo's £35m not some of the fanciful numbers eminating from Ecclestone. Second, the value with QPR is in the land next to the site IMO - what is to be vacated by the BBC. This land will have great value when it is made available and someone will be able to cash in on it and owning the QPR site will give the concern a great advantage. Fernandes has stated that he wants to run the club "as a business", in normal business I would presume this to mean he wants the club to make a profit. Frankly there is bugger all chance of getting QPR to do this in the short to medium term - even if they were to settle down in the Prem, clearly relegation would change that model. Am I jealous / should we be jealous? I for one have struggled to believe the mess Watford are in, and all for the sake of £10m. On one hand we cannot complain about lack of investment in Watford FC when us ST holders only pay £355 for an adult in the Rookery, when the QPR equivalent is £1400 - yes really £1400.
I know you like to get a sly dig in at QPR when it's relevant and occasionally not but an adult season ticket in the equivalent of the Rookery is £759 for the upper tier, £649 for the lower. Certainly not great, and I for one was as disgusted as most before paying it like a mug, but £1400 would be the most expensive in the league for a regular seat I'd imagine.
Bernie Ecclestone's influence over F1 makes Sepp Blatter's power over football seem laughable by comparison. Given Tony Fernandes' other business interests, it's easy to see why the price might be inflated compared to other clubs of a similar size. The value of land in Kensington also has to be taken into account.
