We could say the same about how the Tory led referendum has divided the country, put our economy in turmoil and will cost us billions

Not many of his own MP's admire him. Is it a British thing admiring a gallant loser?

I was only trying to explain why there really is no alternative to the Tories. The Labour Party is just waiting to tear itself apart and the Lib Dems are nearly as rare as the dodo.

Perhaps we all need to brush up on our Latin when Jacob Rees Moog rules.

You could say the same about the PM.....

All part of our 'wonderful' democracy....

sadly I am inclined to think that as a nation we get who we deserve...

There can be little debate now about the fact that the PM has been reigned in. Holiday extended, just one trip out this week where she is not allowed to speak, then a trip to Japan next week. Keep her away from those who would like to know if she has a plan yet for the country's future. As I pointed out the other day her red line is becoming a bit pink. Government ministers are desperately spinning today. Justice Minister Dominic Raab has now said it will not be a clean break from the ECJ. If he of all people admits it then we can rest assured that we are watching another U turn.

There is a lot of financial data available today, and no matter which way you look at it the UK economy is far from healthy. Production down, construction down, agriculture down, only services showing signs of any growth. Some economists are now suggesting that recession will return in 2018. While other countries around the EU are showing good growth and investment, the business investment in the UK has dropped sharply. With inflation still heading up consumer spending is hardly growing anymore, and that is what was keeping the economy progressing. It is little wonder that the value of the pound is where it is today.

This is the first time in many years an anti Brexiteer dare compare UK date to other EU countries. make the most of it, your temporary growth is unlikely to last very long. I'm not surprised you missed the employment comparison figures.

Sterling is no doubt affected by the Brexit uncertainty. It will recover once we have thrown off the EU restrictive shackles.
The Uk remains the no.1 location for inward investment in Europe, FDI has created more jobs in the UK than anywhere else in Europe. 250% more jobs than France created.

Amazing that you still cling to the hope that when the UK departs the EU everything will come up roses. When will that be 2019-2022? So it is likely to be many months ahead that there will be a turn around, and during that time what damage will have been done?
You have said how the weakness of the £ boosts exports, but the figures show that it hasn't. The real problem is that Britain’s manufacturing base is now too small to take advantage of a more competitive exchange rate. The capacity simply isn’t there.

I do not expect everything to be perfect, life is not like that. I do however think the hassle will be worth it on many grounds. The government is making a real effort to rebalance the economy by encouraging high tech skills and manufacturing. I would even accept a period of reduced growth to enable us to regain sovereignty and border control.

You would do better to be more concerned about France's inability to reduce it's unemployment numbers and to attract foreign investment. The French public debt is ballooning, much worse than the Uk's. There is likely to be anarchy on the streets in France next month when the Macron boy faces down the growing opposition to his proposed reforms. All of the previous Presidents' attempts ended in embarrassing failure.

You complain that only bad news about the UK gets posted on here, but in truth there is no good news, just your wishful hopes. Point us to some facts about how it is all going to go. As you mention border control I take you have read that the Home Office admits they do not know what the true figures are about how many people are in the country. If this is the case then maybe they need to look at their own systems, and not try to make a link with the EU.

They well may have to improve their system but the inability to control migration from the EU is well known to many. The UK should have, and will have, the ability to choose the quantity and quality of migrants after Brexit. This is simply a right most countries around the world currently enjoy.
You have posted a lot of 'project fear' doom and gloom since the referendum, most if not all has been rubbished by events.

The trouble is that it is a slow and steady slide downhill. All the bluster about controlling immigration has been shown up for what it is, a sham. If they cannot control immigration of people from outside the EU where the larger proportion come from, why should we have any faith that suddenly they are going to get on top of it. The last Home Secretary had years to sort the problems and didn't, tried to say it was all EU problems, when the figures clearly show it to be otherwise. Your faith in them to improve the system is to be expected, by what are they actually doing?

What we do know is that under the present system we have no right to control our own borders, brexit will cure that. If the UK had an economy like France I would be extremely worried about creating jobs and attracting investment. As we don't I'm confident we can make a success of it.
