Agree Yoshi is a much improved footballer, never complains and just seems a good all round pro. He's actually one of my favourite Saints!

It's OK making runs but you need clever players who can see them. Manila made several today and they were not seen. The rest of our attacking line up are far too static.

It was, gemerally a poor performance, but we won. We are always awful against ten men, and West Ham were quite hapoy to bully us into letting them back into the game. We were outmuscled rather than outplayed, and we need to remember to use the football well. We played so many poor passes today.

Tadic is a difficult one, because he does some nice stuff if you ignore the crosses. It was a never a red, his challenge, btw. It was a clear yellow for a clumsy challenge.

Prowse should have started ahead of Davis, if just because Prowse might, just, possibly, -ish, score a goal.

I think Lemina has potential, but he played a few awful passes and one diabolical back header. Needs to shake pff the rust.

Biggest mistake under the Liebherr regime was not turning Antonio's loan into a permanent. Okay, he wasn't for sale, but... what a player!

That happens an AWFUL lot with Manolo. We stuck it accurately in that channel once, he bamboozled Fonte who has the turning circle of an ocean liner these days, and he scored...

Does anyone know if there is a clip up of this Tadic tackle?
All the West Ham fans are screaming that it should have been a red but I cannot find highlight clips

BBC did not suggest there should be more than a yellow and I can only find clips of Mark Noble's "challenge" (or flying stamp) and Arnautovic's elbow. This partly suggests the answer to whether it really should have got more than a yellow. But I would like to see it

Edit: It is also not mentioned in the BBC's "were the big calls right" part for this game.

But is referred to as an assault by Hammers fans.

It was not a red. Just a clumsy barge, really. Yes, his foot was up, but also to the side.

I thought Yoshi and Stephens were probably our stand out players, but they can get out musled especially when teams sling crosses in the box?
Thought our new boy was a bit taken aback by the pace of the game and some of his passing was a bit wayward, especially in the first half.
Not a great game but a wins a win and we did score from two pens?

I figured as much as the only calls for it seem to really be from the ravings on twitter and KUMB.
As mentioned the fact that it is not brought up by the BBC is usually telling. Especially when they are mentioning all the "big calls"

As an aside West Ham fans are moaning about Reid's injury meaning they are "stuck" with Fonte. But he was going to start this game regardless...

Get Hoedt and a attacking minded player and this team will be good.

Just seen replays of the winning penalty. Seen some people say it's soft but Zabelletta knows what he is doing and it's a blatant push as Yoshida meets the ball.

I would like to see this in our next match....

    Forster
    Cedric - Stephens - Yoshie - Bertrand
    JWP - Lemina - Romeu - Redmand
    Gabby - Austin

Okay some thoughts from today -

Made it hard for ourselves but we won.

Jose still plays for us going by that performance.

Lemina had a decent first game. Kinda like a Diet Victor - fills in well at the back, is powerful, and complements Oriol well. Some of his passes went astray, but you could level that at a few today.

Please will someone look up and find Manolo's runs.

Berty didn't have his passing shoes on.

In general the crossing was awful, only thing worse was Cedric's shooting.

But....that right side does interlink well.

We struggle to break teams down centrally.

West Ham fans - fair play - outsung us throughout, then ruined it by living up to the less savoury part of their reputation at the end.

Thought the Long sub, with Charlie/Dusan behind him was odd. I'd have taken off Nathan for Sofiane. But then again, we won.

Joe Hart wend down about five minutes before Charlie's penalty, making it very, very easy for him. Interesting to see Hart go to Fonte to talk to him prior to the penalty to find out what side Charlie would shoot. Jose cocked that up too.

Live it was never a red. Mistimed, and a yellow, yes.
