Clement just said that he had no interest in just losing 1-0 and that we had to go for it. I fully support that attitude but in hindsight, losing 1-0 would have been better for moral and attracting new players maybe?

There's something to be said for getting battered and sneaking one on the counter...tough choice...

We all knew we would lose this - it's no shock result. I feel people are hurting because up until the crazy few minutes, we had been doing better than most imagined.
If those in charge can't see we need at least 2 "big" signings then there's no point being in the PL. We need new players who will be a big improvement on the starting 11 - not bench fillers. We have Llorente to rely on - it will be good to see him back, but we need others to also shoulder the burden.
Narsingh, Ayew etc are just very average - we don't have any magic in our team now that Icelandic dude has left.

4 fking midfeiders who run their guts out would be nice, 2 that can cross a ball, a striker x 2 who scores and defenders who kick the crap out of their CF

We are just painfully weak in the final third.
Mesa is good as a holding mid. Carrol is decent technically, but that for me is where the quality ends.
We have absolutely no pace in our starting 11. No one can get past a man, no one has any flair or forward drive. It's all just slow build up with a disappointing end. 2 games in, 1 shot on target. And I can't even remember what that was. It's just not good enough. Either the board act fast and make some good signings or we are on the quickest route to the championship.

What makes it worse is that the signings have been there over the years, we just continue to scrimp and save and have missed out massively. Siggy left us because of how poor we were last season. That for me is the yanks and huws fault. They thought they could sell our captain and top goal scorer and make do with what we had at the time. They didn't see the knock on effect it would have should we struggle like we did.

Phil, we are a disgrace when it comes to bringing players in, play them 3 games and if no good we loan them, the whole system needs to be looked at

    Just got back in

Whilst we were still 0-1, it always felt like we could get lucky and sneak an equaliser on the break. Think of Tammy's header in the second half - Llorente would have had it on target.

Playing 3 centre backs worked - that said, Mawson was poor by his standards.

Don't agree with Valley's assessment of Fernandez - we all thought he had a decent game. Not perfect, but decent.

Unfortunately, we had nothing going forward - this has to be addressed or we are toast this season.

The substitutions changed the game - our formation left us wide open to United's strengths - and Mourinho reacted to our substitutions & made his own tactical changes - what an impact, 3 goals in less than 4 minutes.

Wonder if Bob is thinking that under him, we only lost 3-0. <laugh>

Sloppy / lucky goal on 48.
Abraham missed chances he should have scored from (the 1st was hard to see how he missed).
But the reason we got thumped was taking off the spine of the defence - Mesa and Bartley for two wide players.
Chalk this one down to the manager.

We need to stick with a back three ... once the impressive Bartley went off our centre / centre left hand side was torn apart.

Valley 'Clement just said that he had no interest in just losing 1-0 and that we had to go for it. I fully support that attitude but in hindsight, losing 1-0 would have been better for moral and attracting new players maybe?'
I agree but there again Guidolin narrowly lost a his final three games going for the win and it got him sacked.

I'm far more positive than after the Southampton game. Let's get Llorente back for Abraham and Ki for Carroll and we could have the makings of a good team but we really need to add quality too.

Well done the supporter who put an arm around Olssen at the end and told him not to worry, the team had done well.

I've not read any other reports on here so I'm not with or against anyone's opinion but this is my assessment.

Fab 6 - nervy and didn't communicate with his defenders.
Naughton 6 - typical Naughton game but with a little more bite
Fernandez 8 - outstanding made umpteen important interventions
Bartley 8 - has benefitted from regular football last season. We saw what happened when he went off
Mawson 6 - I'm generally not a fan but he was good in parts. But when we reverted to four across the back was exposed horribly
Olsson 6 - still not seeing the player of January - March but the opposition was a bit tasty today.
Mesa 7 - great organiser bt needs to realise other players aren't necessarily thinking as quickly or moving continuously to receive simple passes. Excellent free kick. Looked unfit. Once he went off nobody took charge.
Carroll 4 - why he wasn't substituted is anyone's guess. Shocker from start to finish.
Fer 5 - could have got himself sent off today but at least he showed some steel.
Abraham 6 - very tricky, very willing but if he's serious about that Ballon d'or he should have got a hat trick today.
Ayew 9 - worked his socks off and is Sigurdsson's natural successor.

Subs didn't achieve much but as our midfield had been decimated that's not surprising.

Clement 3 - Mindguff subs made us look like a village team.

Another good shout by the OP :emoticon-0126-nerd:, but a closer look at our bench shows that it is mid-Championship standard at best. I don't think any of those players will come on and positively change the course of any Premiership fixture this season.

    Substitutes
    • 5 van der Hoorn
    • 11 Narsingh
    • 13 Nordfeldt
    • 15 Routledge
    • 22 Rangel
    • 56 Fulton
    • 62 McBurnie

This is what we finished with <yikes>

    Narsingh--------Fer---------Carroll-------Routs

    ---------------Ayew---------------Abraham---------

None of these would start in a decent PL team (maybe Carroll - who is an average version of Joe)

No creativity, not much fight or work rate (except Ayew) and no goals either. We're in big, big trouble.

Well all the know fek all pundits will have us in their relegation team picks already ! Early days again and iff clemo gets given some material he can work with the wins will come !
If he gets fa off the yanks n Co. Then we know without doubt where we stand and their gamble of spend as little as possible to maximise what they can squirrel away with a strategy of staying up by luck rather than competence will see us gone !

As it stands, with this squad, I don't see any other scenario.

Not one of our match day squad would get into United's so losing to the Mancs has to be expected - but for 3/4s we were competitive
