Match Day Thread Saints v West Ham - K.O. 3pm Saturday 19th August

These two games have highlighted our big weaknesses.

However, we have Hoedt and VVD coming back and hopefully an attacking mid that brings a goal threat. Plus we still got 4 points. Looking like it could be a good season if we are smart in the remaining week of the window.

 

At 2-1 my son said, "I want another goal, Dad!"

"Saints would just get another one, though."

Looking forward to Hoedt. Looks like a strapping, commanding CB. Could also be one for Fran?

When they equalized I reverted to 'old saints mode' where I expected the 3rd goal to be a WHU one.
Old habits are hard to shake off.

He did get most decisions right. Noble should have been off, though.

I will take that! But what the **** is Forster doing! I have totally lost confidence that he can do the job in goal!!

 

Okay, but not his fault our defenders weren't as sharp as Little Pea. And the initial save for the second goal was incredible. Unfortunately, no one will notice because of the rebound.

 

Yeah, I kind of like him on the right, slightly Beckhamesque.

I rate him but don't think offers enough going forward to play in the 3 behind the striker. So it would have to be in place of Lemina or Romeu, it's hard for him to find his own position in our team.

 

Very unlike us to give teams so many shots (on and off target)...that was true even in the first half. Last season we used to bemoan giving teams only a couple of shots and they'd score from both. Let's learn from this, dust ourselves off.....and look forward to MOTD.

 

Quick summary of the game:

We made it far harder then it should have been.

West Ham are very dirty team and look like they have no organisation.

Hernandez always scores against us.

Please don't drop Prowse for Davis again.

Lemina looked decent, just needs to adjust to the Prem.

On Lemina, one thing that surprised me was that it seemed like he was the holding player who dropped back and it was Romeu who went box to box and ran with the ball forward. didn't notice Lemina do it once the whole match, which i thought he was brought in for?

 

I think he was described as defensive when we bought him....it was Mauricio who suggested he was box to box.

 

1st half we looked excellent. 2nd half was a struggle, at 2-0 down with 10 men teams play with freedom- nothing to loose.

Lemina looks a prospect. The double sub was inspired, could have happened earlier.

Felt Bertrand and Redmond were poor.
