This Wood thing illustrates (if you needed it) what has gone wrong with football. The short version is: Prem tv money has spoilt the game In my yoof no one would leave a club in L2 with 30k plus gates and pushing for promotion, for a club with 10k gates and for whom relegation is only a matter of time
Yes, I seriously think that Radz didn't want to cash in as keeping Wood means our chances of promotion and therefore his chances of big money were better. The top scorer in the championship was bound to attract attention of the lower premier teams. Reality is that once the prem clubs come calling the player will want to go for the money they can earn regardless of whether they are home grown Leeds supporters or from NZ.
Let me say it slowly. He had two years on his contract and we could just have said not for sale to any clubs coming calling. What we actually did was effectively say make your best offer.
There's a bloke on JA called jonty who always finds a negative perspective on any club actions. Are you related ?
Sounds like he will be right more than he is wrong from what you say. Give me a positive in this situation.
Untrue That's not how it works If it was, top prem clubs would regularly hold players who want out to their contracts, they don't I've seen enough of Rad to see he's not just Bates GFH Cellino reincarnated Yes he's getting the best price but no I don't believe this was like Bates selling off our best young talent and then weeping crocodile tears
Enlighten me. We make him stay, what does he do? What would be the consequences of his action for him? He has to perform even if unhappy or he wont ever get the big money prem move.
Strikes me that it's you who's being stupid - for associating yourself with us! If you don't like it, STFU & fcuk off. Let us enjoy supporting our club through it's ups & downs. We're here to talk football, not to nurse you through your mid-life crisis.
He plays within himself to avoid injury, probably misses a few games with a 'back strain', Leeds will get little or nothing out of him. His agent will still Be in touch with burnley who won't be naive enough not to know why his form has suddenly dipped and Wood will still get his big money move, possibly on higher wages, as his transfer fee falls because of said behaviour. That's the game and all in football know it
calling fans plastics for not being at a game is arrogant ... not everyone lives close enough to attend, not everyone has the money to travel long distances to visit ER every week ... I used to travel up often, and if it were weekday games stay over, and for a family of four it's a serious cost I've been there on a freezing Tuesday night in Lge One watching us struggle to beat a very poor Orient (met Shaks at the hotel after) ... I've been there to see us draw 1-1 with Barcelona and boot them out of the Chumps Lge ... I've frozen my nuts off on a Tuesday night watching Alex Bruce being a fake footballer as we chucked away a 4-1 lead against Red Nose Junior's Preston to lose 6-4 as Grayson stood there clueless to sweepingly call fans plastics smacks of both arrogance and ignorance ... Leeds have hundreds of thousands of fans across the globe, so should we ask them to go and support Scum because they can't make it to a game? I only went to Leeds away games while Cellino was in charge because I couldn't stand the clown and wanted him gone ... it's not great sitting in the home end watching the Leeds away end rock, but it's better than nothing ... we all have our reasons why we don't/can't attend ER, but that doesn't mean we love the club any less than those who go every game I would love to live close to ER and have a season ticket, that would be amazing ... unfortunately that won't happen so I make do with what I can ... if I am the epitome of a plastic fan then so be it, but don't belittle long distance supporters just because they can't be at every match ... they still buy memberships, buy shirts, buy merchandise ... they still try and contribute as best they can Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You are making the same mistake as shaks... Doc is talking about the 20000 that were there week in week out when we were decent that disappeared. Now unless you are one of those that went every week, and even if your circumstances havent changed but now you dont go he aint talking about you. He is correct about what he says. The likes of Newcastle and citeh before them show how many plastics attach themselves to lufc.
Billy let me say again this has nothing to do with fans who moved or have difficulty, this is glory hunting fans who left the club & went to follow Scum or some other prem side. They were here when we were in the prem and will be back when we get back to the prem. glory hunters not real fans or they would be at ER every week. 10,000 fans missing, some coming back now but wait until promotion and watch them flood back
Yesterday I think it was beer talking, today perhaps its a raw nerve! Nowhere have you criticised those who cant go due to circumstance. You have only critcised those who dont go because we arnt fighting for trophies.
For me our style is evolving this season and something struck me on Tuesday watching live at ER. As you know the perspective from being actually in the stadium is totally different. We played with effectively two No'10's who interchanged between short and long positions. This moved the opposition around far more than previously opening up spaces for other players to move into. It was all very fluid and great to see after watching us be so predictable last season. One consequence of this different style of play was the way it moved their full backs and created space for a pacy forward to either get down the sides or between the centre halves. A perfect example of this was how Wood was played in for his one on one chance. Let's wait and see who we sign to replace Wood and what attributes they have before jumping to negative conclusions. Or to put it another way...have some faith that our new management team actually know what they're doing. The new contract for Wood will have been on the table for some time now. Therefore we will have planned ahead accordingly the longer it remained unsigned.
