I've never read other forums apart a few boards on here. But I took a look at a derby forum. ****ng hell. Mind they did have a couple of sane voices.
I'm not saying it isn't sensible, it's just very odd when we have other players we should also be offering improved terms to. Granted the main other one is Hernandez so hopefully we are doing likewise with him.
The best move we made all summer was to sell Huddlestone, he's been a problem for a good 3 years. It's exactly the same with us and Snodgrass, put him in a team surrounded by pace and I think it'd be a good move, our problem was we already had a ridiculously ponderous team.
Listening to slutsky's post match interview, when asked about Marvin Johnson if I heard it correctly he referred to him and a left back and by all accounts he's complete bollocks at left back.. Hoping he's not brought in to play there when we're crying out for a proper left back and a winger or two
"When I left I always said I would like to come back at some stage before I retired," Yes, I always wanted to come back but you never know what is going to happen. In the past few years I saw Derby signing quite a few players and no bids had been made for me until now. I am buzzing to be back, very excited." That's a funny thing to say if you didn't want to return to Derby but only signed for them because you didn't get offered a new contract at your current club. Would he have signed for us had a contract been offered? Probably. Does that mean he didn't want to go back to Derby? Absolutely not.
Of course he said he wanted to go there, every player who signs for a new club says he wants to go there, it was just saying he wouldn't have gone if he'd been offered a new deal from us that was out of the ordinary.
I suspect it will take considerably less than that To me it's not about who we lose necessarily, it's about who we replace them with If you look at the starting 11 (including loans) then Maguire for Hector...not a disaster I don't think. Looked our best player by a mile last night Davies and Rannochia for Mazuch ...no idea but two out one in is the biggest problem Robbo & Tymon for Clark...not going well sadly, maybe because he's not played there for a while but he looked caught in two minds on too many occasions defensively last night. And two out one in is the biggest problem, a specialist LB is a must Hudddlestone for ? Not sure, Stewart...Larsson? Anyway I'm not devastated, I'm not sure he'd have been up for the fight again, but it's left us lacking in passing quality in the middle. Hopefully Stewart will be fit soon although I realise he's a different player Marcovic for Bowen ...not a fair comparison in this league but I think Bowen looks ok, but with Aina behind him we're defensively weak Niasse (maybe) for Campbell ...Campbell looks ok, but needs to get a couple of goals to get going Elmo for Aina ...Aina looks like he'll get better, but I wish he'd stop fannying about and pass the ball instead of gifting sides it, and goals. Would be good as a Wing Back but maybe we need another CB to allow that more often (could have put Mazuch on but them no option on the bench without changing the formation) I'll have forgot some So if Clucas goes then so be it, but it's who gets brought in because we haven't got a strong starting 11 now (definitely haven't with Abel injured) and our strength in depth is non existent Can't see anyone wanting Grosicki at the moment
So you don't think Tom wanted to go back to his first club? He's just talking the usual bollocks that every new signing does? He would have signed a deal with us because at the time it was his only offer and he's now the wrong side of 30, that doesn't mean he didn't want to return to Derby nor does it mean he wishes he could have stayed here, as soon as Derby made the move we were always going to lose out, our only hope was tying him down before Derby made an offer, obviously Ehab cocked that one up as usual.
You're usually quite rational so I can't understand how you just can't grasp this one. Tom would have signed for us had a contract been offered at the right time, the contract wasn't offered so Derby moved in, Tom signed for Derby which he's pleased about because he always wanted to return. Its that simple, what's so hard to understand about that?
It's simple. He's saying if he'd been offered a contract by us before Derby came calling then he would have signed it and then Derby wouldn't have got him as he'd have just signed a contract and probably wouldn't have the release clause.
Spot on and he's happy how it worked out because he always wanted to return to Derby at some point and he thought it might not happen, simple as that.
There's nothing unusual about the deal, I'm sure he's quite happy to be there and I said when the offer came in, he'll definitely go, as his main house was in Nottingham. I said nothing about the deal itself, nothing about the deal surprised me, I expected it, is that now clear? All I said, was that Tom's comments about him being happy to stay if we'd offered the new deal earlier were unusual, there was no need to say it. Normally, a player will just rave about how happy he is to have signed, he won't announce he wouldn't have come if he'd been offered a new deal by his previous club.
I agree with OLM. I too thought it a strange thing for him to say. My read on it was that he was seeking to highlight things within the club's hierarchy that he did not think were right/ agree with. he was also perhaps laying bare his frustration at the situation he found himself in notwithstanding the fact that Derby was a 'good fit' for him if he were not to continue to be employed by Hull City AFC. MoH
He did actually reference the contract extension policy when he was still at the club. Highlighting how unusual it was that players had automatic extensions enforced without discussion and also players weren't spoken too before entering the last 12 months of existing deals. Puts the power back in the hands of the player imho.
