Some Interesting Statistics in Le Grove

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Robin van Bergkamp, Aug 18, 2011.

  1. I like Stats. Hated Maths at sKOOL but loved Stats. Not commenting on accuracy of the stats here but I would say that he who did put them together hopefully got his numbers right. Most of these I didn't know and they make rather interesting reading -

they do have a good point about the wages we pay to the younger players.

a re-think of this wouldnt do any harm

Yeah saw that myself very interesting.

Its true, the fans are genuinely unhappy at how the club is being run. We show no ambition anymore and that's the most depressing thing.

It would be quick and easy to get some faith back from the fans - give them what they want- SPEND SOME ****ING MONEY!

i tend to trust that site a lot more. it seems pretty well done. the figures will obviously be speculation in the vast majority of Arsenal cases as fees are not disclosed.

  6. Thanks for the link Bon:emoticon-0171-star:

Non-disclosures apart, it does appear that from 2003 onwards, approaching the coming of the youth policy, we have sold more than we have bought. Part of this could be in the profits realised by selling on players we have purchased when in their youth but current trends do give cause for concern. This obviously would change once the management's intentions become known over the next twelve days.

We are getting to the point where actually the debt from the stadium move is going to have little to no effect on our finances and we will be raking in record profits with the current increasing revnue streams such as organic league growth and also growth abroad in the asian and american markets.

With the fair play regulations comming into effect within the next couple of seasons Arsenal should in theory be one of the clubs who take over as the rich ones able to buy all the best players as our profits will allow for us to out-bid oru rival clubs who do not turn over such impressive profits.

    Gervinho: 10.6m
    Jenkinson: 1m
    Oxo: 12m
    Campbell: 1.2m

These are speculated figures, but they add up to a staggering 24.8m spent on players thus far.
Cesc has realised 35m. Clichy 7m, JET 1.1m. That's 43.1m in income - a nett profit of 18.3m to spend still remaining before any transfer budget is touched. I'd like Cahill for 15m & use the remaining 3.1m, in addition to 23m from the sale of Nasri to bring in a playmaker and *STILL* post a transfer profit!!

  12. The stats published in Le Grove are from 2006 guys so as far as net payments are concerned, we do lag behind quite a number of teams.

I read somewhere that our salaries were the third highest in the EPL. On that basis it is clear we are not rewarding our top players enough and overpaying our young interns. No wonder players leave and few come on board. After next week, the worst may come to be so we are very much reliant on the players we have at the moment. Arsene's policy is a Big Fail

  14. No GoonerC, that wasn't my post , it was a quote from le grove and on that basis, the writer is correct since the table lists the net transfer spend per club ( net of payments against receipts )

I accept that like all stats, figures can be put together based on a set of assumptions, in this case it ties in with the writer's assertions. Nevertheless a spend that amounts to little more than that of Sunderland and which is only just over half of Man Utd's and less than a third of either City or Chelsea and under 50% of Liverpool's does not bode well in terms of investing for the future IMHO

One may say he has bought cheaply but that doesn't exactly help when, because of our wage structure, absence of silverware and seeming lack of ambition, these players leave us before we can get the best out of them. So it's just money down the drain.

Liverpool are a great comparison, don't forget they were a couple of days away from administration last year

  18. I think we all accept that things are not right at The Emirates. Something needs to be done and quickly too. In fact it should have been done before because the next three matches could well define our season. Perhaps whatever happens at the EPL matches can be made up if we assume the worst. However a slender margin to take to Italy could mean that we are not in the CL which leaves us an unattractive proposition for top incoming players. On top of that, we would lose income by not being in the CL so the cycle continues. It would be the 7th year without anything to show and if we don't make it into the Top 4, it will be another season not in the top flight without any guarantee of instant recovery either. A place in the Europa League is not where we should be. It may not be the end of the world but it would be so c*** as well. :(
