It adds up completely. There's no great conspiracy. We've made a decent chunk on a few players. We've lost far more than that on ****. We've handed out expensive contracts. We've bought a dozen players a year, they all have agents who take fees. We've sacked a manager every year for god knows how long, they all got pay offs.

The 60m profit you mentioned there is a ****ing pittance.

Surely TV and Gate money come into this . We've dined at the top table for 10 year and averaged 40,000 plus crowds. I don't recall any blockbuster signings, perhaps 30 million a season. There's plenty clubs have spent more than us and aren't as deep in the Red.
Palace, Stoke to name a couple, West Ham.
 
Another thread turning into Short and his finances....

On the OP - too early to tell so no real opinion as yet. Happy with the signings but need more.

He's saying the right things but actions speak louder than words and in football you're always judged on results at the end of the day.

I think he's doing a sterling job on transfers, squad/team morale and selection, and PR.
He clearly gives a ****, doesn't suffer fools and looks like he knows how to put a good, hard-working footballing side together. I hope he can get a couple more in who offer that bit more quality so we have a good season, and he gets the credit he'll deserve.
But I'm in no rush to go straight back up until the ****e further up the food chain has been cleared out.

It's not something most supporters would think of as a big deal but apart from a fairly brief spell under Allardyce it hasn't felt like that's happened for some time. Usually after ten minutes the gameplan has gone out the window.

Something I like about Grayson is that he's the first manager for ages that is fully savvy to how ****ed up the club is/was and he's not arsed. He's got virtually no budget and it's not a problem for him.

I think so yeah, I suppose it had to happen at some point. We've had **** luck in a lot of ways and for a number of years but my gut feeling is that it's over now.

Big club. Big name syndrome.

Relegation..kick in the nuts.

Reality time...He seems the perfect fit for the situation..
 
Early days, but he does seem to be doing and saying the right things and moving us in the right direction. And oh yes...he is doing it with a smile on his face..

Grayson came on the back of success at a lower level and very savvy at that level.
He is a Sunderland fan to boot and wants to be here and knows what we want and has that important quality - common sense in abundance.
Does not suffer fools or wasters - a bit like the best manager we never had - Brian Clough - unknown at a top level till he went to Derby then Notts Forest.
Lets hope SG continues upwards with Sunderland.
