It's not the same at all. £20m was the starting price set by Leeds. £3m is the starting price if you read the Oxford United side - we bid £1m. I'm all for getting a bargain - Quinn from Sheff Utd was probably one of the best in recent times, but that was written into his contract. In the same way we've had players leave due to release clauses. I just don't agree with this approach to trying to sign a player who is only one year into a 3/4 year deal. Clubs lower down the league structure have enough problems generating capital without us showing them the ****ty end of the stick.
Having seen how unhappy the Derby fans are it's maybe a blessing in disguise. They have described their midfield as 'pedestrian'.
It's not the ****ty end if the stick....its just Business, as harsh as it is, it's the world we live in
I'm pleased Clucas is still here, but have a feeling it won't be for much longer. Fully expected Robbo and big Harry to move on but still pissed off about Hudds going cheaply because despite fans being split over him,he could actually pass a ball under pressure and didn't actually want to leave the club as far as I know. Bastard owners fault..
1.3 and 2.5 million respectively hardly broke the bank, that aside surely my remarks were easily recognised as somewhat tongue in cheek.
He was under contract and we were just relegated why did we need to offer improved terms??? So derby offered more and then we matched it. Why the **** would anyone offer improved terms to a bloke who couldn't get in the team. He's gone and we're better without him. Sam I want to keep. If it gets up to 20 then we'll take it sadly.
It has crossed my mind that Len had his look at him and thought no, he's not a fit. I know he waxed lyrical, but they do, don't they - although the contract offer blurs things a tad. Derby fans certainly seem to be seeing the reality very early; although one occasional decent game in the mix might not fuddle their thinking as it did some on here.
A comment off a Wolves forum "Hernandez is their main threat - they lost probably their best defender (Curtis Davies) and arguably their best CM (Huddleston) to Derby, Clueless Clucas wants to leave so isn't being played"
In Hughes and Ince they sold the only 2 players they had with genuine pace. Modern game is moving to a pace based game. Huddlestone is terrific when you've got quick players to supplement his passing game. Derby seem to have got it totally wrong.
