Seems like common sense to me. The Premier League are almost certain to ratify the new rules that will see the domestic transfer window close before the season starts and it now looks like the Football League may well follow suit... please log in to view this image
Would this mean that teams in European leagues being able to pick off players in the English ones even after our window was shut?
Is that serious? If so why? If our window closes a few weeks before certain other countries, will that mean that English clubs can't buy anyone once ours is closed regardless of where from? But presumably we can still sell them to European clubs?
I loved the days you'd rock up to see a new centre forward's debut at any month pre April. With City, and the lack of media, sometimes you'd not know a new signing would be debuting.
So, in theory,a manager thinks his squad is set, then a few days into the new season his star centre forward can get sold to a French club?
Good point especially with release clauses and the likes of PSG, Barcelona and Real having a lot of pulling power.
I have wanted this for a long time. It's ridiculous all the squad changes that take place part way through the season. They should also make sure player contracts finish at the end of the season (extending to cover play off games), giving them a longer window when there's no competitive domestic football which players can find new clubs or sort transfers.
Yeah precisely. I don't know why fans of PL clubs would want this, they're essentially strengthening the hands of clubs in other leagues. If we had it in place now Coutinho could still get sold to Barca and Liverpool can't buy anyone domestically to replace him.
Can't agree with this unless all leagues come in line (which is an issue with different league start dates), otherwise its ridiculous and puts domestic clubs at a distinct disadvantage. Why not just make it July 31 and be done with it.
Because, as you say, other leagues usually start later cos of the ****ing boiling summers. Serie A has started at the end of August before - should their clubs need to get all their players in more than 3 weeks before kick off? Essentially what you're saying is why can't other leagues move to suit us. Well why can't all leagues start the 3rd weekend in August and the transfer window close the Thursday before?
It will definitely be approved, every Premier League club is in favour, except Watford... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...ion-window-shut-premier-league-season-starts/
Scrap the window altogether or trim it down to everyone to coincide with our season start date. We are coming out of Europe anyway so might as well piss everyone off a bit more.
