He's acting like Fergie and Jose claiming the authorities and refs are against us it's crap re chelsea and Man U it's even more crap re little league 1 cafc . The fans lap it up and will turn into Man U Chelsea type dickhead fans. Crofts sending off was in today's game 100% red card no argument
Robinson's attitude may be worryingly similar to that of Gary Megson when he was in charge of sheffield Wednesday during their League One days. The assumption that Charlton is way too 'big' a Club (in every sense of the word) to be in League One, and that because of that everybody else resents us and wants a piece of us, and that every team coming to the Valley will treat it like a Cup Final. I think most League One teams who come to SE7 look around the Valley and think 'yep, nice stadium. Nice facilities. OK pitch. Half empty stands.' They know they will probably be in for a tough game, but they aren't exactly going to be overcome by the glamour or enormity of the occasion. A siege mentality can bring players together, but it only tends to work when the siege is genuine. Two red cards, a one finger salute to the FA and some blather about people being jealous of our new found success is unlikely impress anybody much.... EDIT: ...except Michael Tucker of course. According to him "It almost feels like a vendetta..." http://www.charlton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=499967
Steve Avery is very complimentary about KR on the OS. And I'm a huge fan of Steve Avory, so I'd say that when KR is not in the spotlight, especially when a microphone is not under his nose, he probably talks a lot more sense.
KR has done little wrong thus far this season. Early days, but if his only crime is the crap soundbites, I'm not complaining.
He is in the Steve Evans Mold wins over fans at his own club with passion rhetoric siege mentality ...hated by opposing fans ...loves to be the pantomime villian
Our Club is besieged alright, but not by bureaucrats at the FA or resentful referees - we're besieged by our own board.
Regarding Robinson. I have tried to warm to the bloke since he joined Charlton, but basically I can't. Some of his comments are so David Brent-like as to be funny - witness his comments about the referees vendetta against Charlton last week. What p1sses me off is when he tries to intervene in the politics between the owner and the fans - his comment yesterday about no club in league one being able to afford to spend over £1.5m on a striker was cynical and duplicitous.
It could be countered that we built an entire squad with 1million worth of investment. So if we fail does it fall on the owner or KR?
Working in Westminster must help you spot these things? This season is similar to last, when Slade took over. There was a lot of optimism (yes really), he replaced the medical staff, bought in British players like Ajose, Crofts, Novak and Foley and was upbeat about our prospects. The protests stopped to give him a chance, and there was hope that now things were being done differently, especially since Lookman was not sold in the summer. There was another surge of optimism when KR came in and said that it would be a failure if we did not get promoted. I guess we are in the habit of grasping at straws.
What is frustrating is that we are not far away from being a decent team. A good goalscorer at this level like Will Grigg would make a big difference. I think that Reeves, Marshall, Clarke, Da Silva and Fosu are good players at this level.
Totally agree, the spine of the team is decent, and bearing in mind the quality of the opposition, we should easily make top 6 with a bit of investment. It is so glaringly obvious to all but the 2 idiots [3, if you include Reams].
It is true though. As i have said before it doesn't matter to me the nonsense he talks as long as we win matches. It becomes an issue when he is still coming out with the same stuff and losing. Did Chelsea supporters worry about Mourinho and his constant whingeing about referee's and not getting penalties etc, when he was delivering Premiership titles?
A good striker and more flexibility in our play will certainly help.... but can Gobbo be flexible with his tactics?
You aren't seeing the bigger picture - we've broken even (or come close) for the first time in over 10 years. That's what gets Seriously red excited anyway.
