Everyone can do what they want at the end of the day. But I absolutely maintain that someone 'supporting' a side from 100s of miles away with no connection to the town city at all etc. Or no family links can not have the same passion for their club, particularly if they don't attend matches. You can't replace that feeling of sentiment and belonging imo and I feel you don't really choose your club as such in terms of rational decision, but it's something that just happens and is more emotion based than anything. I think there's a difference between a supporter and a fan, I consider myself the former while Matth is more the latter. Promotion from the 3rd tier probably meant more to me than what a CL win did to him. Just my thoughts for what it's worth.
It always find that the people who bang on about being proper fans are really envious of the fact that the rest of us have multiple purposes in our lives and we are not held to ransom by the fortunes of our teams. They think because we choose to spend our time and money where we want to as oppose to feeling obliged to spend it on the latest club wallpaper like them, that they deserve some form of unique praise for their shallow lives.
I have no problem with that one, as gridiron is clearly a crap game played by muscle Mary's in shiny helmets. On the other hand, if I ever attempted to stay awake long enough to give a **** about baseball, I'd pick the NY Yankees cos I've been to their stadium. Which is more than many Man Utd fans can say about Old Trafford
When I was a kid I supported Washington Redskins because the bloke on the helmet reminded me of my dad
It doesn't really matter where you are from but my personal opinion is you should have some kind of connection with that club... With all the matches on TV these days it is much easier to support most teams but I started watching football in the 80s, so thought it was pointless supporting a 'big' team if I couldn't go and watch their matches! Nothing beats being in the stands on a match day
Well according to some figures, we have a fan base of 650m people, so until we can figure out a way to get them all inside Old Trafford (That would take 8,666 games at current capacity where no fans attend more than once) then we're going to just have to deal with that.
Sounds good Sucky..I used to hate it at school, thought it's a white man thing coz Asians cook the **** out of everything, I wasn't familiar with fresh things with the good nutrients still in them. Glad I tasted it though...****ing yum
Supporting a football club is a sickness, I don't deny that. There's something mentally wrong with allowing your whole weekend to be ruined because you lost at home to Rochdale/Watford/Stoke etc. But then there's being behind the goal at Anfield when Shane Long is one on one with the keeper, and instead of blasting it out for a throw in, he bursts the back of the net and you're on your way to Wembley. And personally I maintain that the rarer those moments are, the sweeter they are. Spending your whole life supporting a team which almost always disappoints, well...I wouldn't swap it for all the Big Club glory in the world. That said, it would be nice if Saints could win something else before I die. Sort it out God, ffs.
