Just reflecting on catching up with Beddytare yesterday. There's probably a a few of us around who won't see 30 again (OK nor 60 either) who remember how awful it has been at times to be a Saints fan. Ted Bates may have a statue, but some of his teams were 'orrible (alehouse brawlers and all that); the collapse after the Lawrie Mac era and of course the wretched football served up season after season before the axe finally fell.

Right now, being a Saint is wonderful. I have returned to living in the North West of England where I have spent most of my life. They know their football up here, and the compliments flying around after we beat Leeds was music to the ears. It's not just the footie either, it's the way the club conducts itself that football fans have clocked. We had become a laughing stock, culminating in that darkest of periods when the money ran out. Now I hear fans of other clubs wishing that their clubs were run as well as ours.

So question for any Saints fan, is has there been a better time?

Life must be tough watching the tumbleweed on your own board. So much so that you have spent all morning posting ****e on our board trying to wind people up.

In terms of the way we are playing alongside the whole structure of the club and the way it is being developed then I would say no. This is a very exciting time and we should enjoy every moment of it because it won't last forever.

You are starting to piss me off now. Does our happiness concern you? If we started as badly as you have, and youy started as well as we have, then I'm sure we woudn't hear the end of it, so sit down, shut up and cry about the fact you support the worst team in Hampshire.

You are obviously not a happy man then.......were you amongst the crowd that were demonstrating outside Fratton then the other week?.......We are not just celebrating 3 wins on the bounce.....we are celebrating the feel good factor.....the exultation of being a stable club once again. That big sigh of relief........You know that feeling you guys get periodically when someone has just bought you and you feel on the straight and narrow again....and again.....and again......
So come on don't knock us just because we feel good for a change........

I have always enjoyed being a Saints fan and perhaps as I have got older I have become less excitable. I still believe the days I enjoyed the most were at the Dell with Ted Bates as manager even if some of his sides, as you say, were 'orrible. I also saw some crap football in the early years of Lawrie, surely you remember Lew Chatterley playing for us. He was appalling.

I have come near to giving up watching Saints on only two occasions. The first was in the Branfoot era. My mate and I watched a game against Wimbledon at the Dell in which both sides just hoofed the ball up the field. We ended up talking about good books we had read, differential calculus and the political consequences of joining the Common Market so you can guess the football was absolute rubbish. That was the end of my mate, he was an ex southern league referee and he knew his football. He never went to another game again.

I persevered but nearly gave up in the darkest days of Lowe and Askham. I remember one game it was so bad I can’t even remember who we were playing but I left 20 minutes early saying I could not stand another minute and I have never left a match early except for that one occasion. Lowe an Askham’s antics got me so mad in those days.

But oh what a joy it is to be a Saints fan now but I can also reminisce on the joys of watching many great players including Channon, Davies, Steve Mills, Steve Williams, the Wallaces, Keegan, Ball, Ivan Golac, Mark Wright and our wonderful Matty.

Today we have our new heroes in Morgan, Rickie, Adam , Cork, etc. So just as I have stored a stack of great memories so the kids today will do the same and in a few years when they are my age they will be able to bore the next generation with stories of the great side of the 2011/12 season and how lucky they were to be there!

PS Haven't you learned to ignore the WUMs and the biggest one of the lot has been on this thread pissing everyone off all morning.

Like a nat at a bbq - just bugging the **** outta you! Soution - Swat it!

Us saints fans can stand loud and proud! Pompey are in the freefall we suffered a few seasons back and once/if they regain some relative status - watch them all come back from the closet!

How many fans saw pompey parade through the city on the FA Cup winning season? Where are they now? Bad times down there so lets not worry too much about the jealousy and hope they bring to the table what these few WUMs are promising because i for one enjoy a good old derby! How it should be!

Typical pompey fan who hasn't got the intellect to make a good reply, just wants to resort to violence and to show that he's one of those computer hard nuts.
