I would debate that with you but not much. My thought this morning was Mingolet Taa Matip lovren Moreno Henderson Can wijnaldum Firmino Mane salah I was really just thinking let the two fast lads go.. same sort of thought as you really.
I don't think Lovren is a major problem but wouldn't mind him bring replaced either. I think the lack of DM is the bigger issue, that and the lack of defensive coaching. We really need a commanding CB and competitive DM. I'd like a proper LB too but we've just bought Robertson I think that's more to do with how Firmino plays that the formation Klopp asked them to play.
That's virtually what we played today, the players are pretty fluid and move around anyway. Problem is the three chumps sitting in the middle who cannot be allowed to play together as a three ever again.
This is why if Coutinho and Keita come into the first team, I see a midfield of Can, Keita and Coutinho with Hendo, Gini and Lallana rotating. Henderson was Henderson - this is the level I expect from him. At least Moreno did a half decent job today ...
And just how bad was Mignolet. His distribution was shocking, he ruined a few counter attacks, failure to command the 6 yard box for the first goal and failing to catch the ball which led to the third goal. All 3 goals were scored in the 6 yard box.
I've said it before - we don't just make one mistake in the build up to the goal, we make several hence why we concede so easily. We literally gift goals. Look at the first goal - Okaka is on Lovren. Okaka then moves into Bobby's zone. Zero communication from Lovren and zero awareness from Bobby. And Mignolet does absolutely nothing. Second goal - can and Moreno actually do well initially to win the ball but then stupidly give away throw in. Moreno does the right thing and gets in tight but the execution was poor and he goes to ground. Will need to watch it again because I thought he was fouled initially. Then the midfielders went to sleep and didn't track any runners. The ball comes into the danger zone and you could say we were unfoetunate with the way the ball fell. Lovren gets caught in two minds and ends up doing absolutely nothing. But still hope to clear the danger. Third goal - Gomez gives away a soft free kick. Mignolet chooses to parry the shot but I think he could have caught it. Gini bottles it at the near post. Now, the goal itself is offside but we deserved to concede. Now, would VVD have prevented this goals? Maybe not directly but he will definitely have an indirect influence for starters because he would organise, communicate and more importantly, bollock anyone who ****s up. There is no accountability in this team - our captain says **** all, Matip and Lovren aren't leaders. Emre Can constantly kept telling Hendo to play the ball quicker, and I remember last season against West Ham when Sturridge completely laid into Lovren when ayew missed a sitter. We need more of that!
Having watched yesterday's game, my honest assessment of Liverpool, would not be particularly great in terms of your chances this season. Yeah you are very strong in attack, Mane, Firminho and the new signing Salah all looked dangerous and will probably score lots of goals this season. A good start for them anyways all getting off the mark in the first game. There are massive problems defensively, that you are gonna need that attack to be scoring 3 or 4 goals a game just to get anything from a game. The problem you'll have is keeping them all fit, as you have no quality in reserve like some of the other CL clubs have if they do get injured. The equalising goal at the end just sums up Liverpool at the back down to a tee, a complete calamity defensively. What was Wijnaldum playing at? That was school boy stuff not dealing with that, and the deflection off Mignolet towards his own goal just sums him up as a goalkeeper. Klopp wants Virgil Van Dijk, but it's a lot of money and Southampton have still not accepted a deal. Are you telling me that Van Dijk is the only defender in Europe who Klopp could buy who is better than Lovren or Matip? Klopp clearly has no idea how to coach a defence, nor does he have much nous in the transfer market if he can't think of one alternative to Van Dijk. Same with that Keita fella, yeah he's a top player, but their are plenty of other players on a similar level who would be available. You've got to have a plan B in the transfer market, as your never going to get your first choice targets all the time. Either way Van Dijk may well help improve your defence, but he's no miracle worker. You still would need a couple more defenders and definitely a new goalkeeper before you'd be solid in defence.
I just don't get it. Why when it's glaringly bloody obvious there's a problem in defence hasn't something been done about it?
I was very impressed by Mane and Salah - certainly going to be 2 of the best players in the league I feel. Just a shame the defence will let you down.
Blaming him for the first goal is wrong. That ball was too fast for any keeper to come get. No way. You are right on counters... he seems to have not been told that you know what mane and salah are placed where they are for a reason off set piece... and then he bowls it out short... ffs... Can is responsible in my mind for 2nd goal... no way after winning it should he give a throw in away and then it's fast throw and dozy off concede Third goal was a) mane not closing up on them and then allowing Gomes a half hour to pump the ball down.then klopp for changing full backs leading to a predictable free and then off could not clear it There were a few pathetic flaps by mingolet no question... But in general nobody following a plan and over complicating simple things and finally failure to be in good shape and good positions... horrible defensive performance. We scored two after yt? Just by klopp telling full backs to get high and a few long balls.
I was extremely impressed with Watford desire and certain players looks real quality. Silva will have you in top 10
1. I agree. Top 4 are decent, there's very little behind them. Taa in 2 years might be a real player, Matip is decent but the rest? 2. You are right about no reserve. We are just scraping sturridge up for about 10 games 3. Wijnaldum at the front post area and firmino at centre of 6 yard area defending set piece sums off up totally. Nonsensical. No other team imo would do that. 4. No plan b? We have no plan a mate. We are not in for vvd at all. We said we were out and we are out. We are doing nothing. 5. It's not just defence.. it's midfield. Neither can no Henderson provide the slightest screen to the cbs. Teams can get a two on two with our cos just by sitting deep then breaking... Henderson was a disgrace yesterday, he never got a good position once imo
I wouldn't judge any team on how they played us yesterday. We were awful. Sure they were up for their first home game. That's normal but conceding 3 at home is not great...and they'll lose every time they do that against better teams.
Now in fairness they had a well organised high press and showed far more desire than lfc. Clear issues of fitness and frankly they should get vvd Imo their high press was easily beaten second half but the lack of ability to change when klopp had two or three breaks in play to pass instructions was scandalous
