I have to agree with Carragher tbh, I don't think your defensive issues are going to be solved by changing the personnel. The zonal marking for set pieces he's employing simply doesn't work. He's also chosen not to strengthen in the area that for me is your weakest point - goalkeeper.

I don't think he's the type to walk mate, he'll take what comes imo

 

And like what if the attackers score 90+ goals?

Only highlights but Rooney looked like he's found a new lease of life...

 

He is Rodgers MK11, totally reliant on a couple of good attackers outscoring the other team.
If the other team happen to be decent at defending then he is clueless, no midfield to force the issue, no defence to at least maintain parity and no idea of how to change a game tactically.

 

But what if teams "park the bus" or put another way stop you from scoring

This is only the first match of the season. Very few conclusions can be drawn at this stage and there is plenty of time to fine tune and to rectify weaknesses

What struck me was how uncertain the defence still was at set pieces. No one can objectively say that the defence is better than last season. The midfield played better in the second half. I was struck by how many chances Salah missed. I just hope he had an off day but a striker of his reputation should have put more of the chances he had away.

Plenty for Klopp to sort out. Already we can conclude that we will be severely weakened by Coutinho unless we get equivalent replacements (don't need to be a genius to work that one out!!).

 

Not every team emulates Maureen's Utd though.

He was MOTM today mate, a class above

He's lost weight, is fully fit and has a genuine desire to succeed at Goodison. Early days but the signs are good, he's still a quality player imo.

No, because we didn't score enough goals. We have hopefully gone some way to correcting that in the summer by getting a PL proved striker and a good DM which will/should give the more creative midfielders more freedom, what has Klopp done to improve your defence or midfield?

In fairness he's made his selections for replacements and those responsible for landing them have so far failed to deliver his 2 main targets

The lack of alternatives is a bit strange though.

Having seen the highlights from today, it reminds me of when we were screaming for Martinez to bring in a specialist defensive coach. As they've seemingly made zero progress in defending from set pieces which in the PL is essential

 

His only targets in those positions by his own admission, most managers hand in a list of 3 or 4 targets in each position they wish to strengthen which gives the club a chance of landing some of them.
The reason he goes with one choice only is because he is one dimensional, he has no idea how to set up a team to meet the available players strengths.
