€17m + 4m add ons apparently. I still wouldn't call Ginter brilliant. Then you add the Prem league bonus, I can see why Spurs rejected. Prem teams are swimming in cash.
I wouldn't call Ginter brilliant, but I do like him more than Wimmer, and he's younger, was cheaper, and has more experience both with club and a better international side. I don't see any reason to pay the Prem league bonus in this instance.
Almost certainly there are better players out there than any we can sign...even at the same price...but that's no good if clubs won't sell or players choose to go elsewhere. I'm sure Les would like to get his first choice, but that won't happen every time. Mauricio has already alluded to the fact that we have failed to land players we want. We can't long for what we can't have....just support the players we get. And looks like we won't get Wimmer anyway...so (in the spirit of sour grapes) lets assume he's rubbish.
Does anyone know if Patrick Roberts (who has been linked) will count towards a squad space being under 21? It would be interesting if the club plan on bringing in him and Armstrong from Celtic (with Clasie going out to free squad space). Adds in some more attacking options Then there is the rumour of vietto (presumably taking Long's squad space) But that is just including all the rumours in one - which is Football Manager stuff
Spurs are supposedly close to signing Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, which may mean Wimmer will now be available.
I think Wimmer is another one I'd be very happy to sign on loan with an option to buy (regardless of whether Virgil stays or goes). Give it a year to see how he goes.
We could guarantee him a start . Spurs not necessarily (although perhaps he is an early Toby replacement) But spurs have champions league And we will not pay 35m sadly (although it is what we should be looking at spending on a Virgil replacement if we do relent on that )
Spurs apparently rejected 20 million for wimmer So assuming they want something like 25, then 31 for Sanchez is substantially better value. But he wouldn't come here and we wouldn't pay that anyway
Don't see us paying that much, and definitely not on Wimmer. Much better out there. If we could get him for £15-£18 million I would be all for it.
Poor old Wimmer. Not sure of all These judgements on him. He's not really had a great run in the Spurs side to judge him. If our guys think they'd like him then the fee isn't hugely important (as long as it isn't way, way over the top). This market is hard to judge anyway.
It is just hard to understand his price more than trebling when he hasn't played much and his remaining contract has presumably reduced (unless he signed a new one) Did he have one or two bad outings last season? Because I really thought I heard reviews saying he was impressive when he had to cover not long after he joined spurs...
