Shergar Cup day at Ascot boys and girls. It doesn't get any better than that Seriously, I am amazed the thing has lasted as long as it has, don't know anyone who thinks it is worth persevering with.
The first at Newmarket is the equivalent of todays 2yo race for debutant colts. So this is always a minefield. I picked out Wafy for the colts heat but entered in the fillies race is Nawassi who comes from the same family. Again by Dubawi out of a mare called Maqaasid who finished 3rd in the 1000G. She is also out of a half-sister to Ghanaati. Crowley isn't riding as he's up at Haydock to ride Laraaib. The dependable Dane O'Neill rides for Gosden.
Quite like the chances of 3 today, but every time I put anything up they lose so probably ones to avoid. 3.25 Asc - CONTANGO. Have backed this one the last twice and was really impressed lto when winning by 11 lengths on soft ground. Should have the same ground today and I think will complete the 4 timer and remain unbeaten. Will be my best bet of the day. 2.30 Hay - LARAAIB. Like the one above is unbeaten and can remain so by taking this race. 4.15 Newm - KHAMAARY. Have backed this one when winning a couple of runs ago and when beaten twice on the bounce. Goes and wins lto when I left it alone but hopefully another win today. 3 singles and a treble
You may not like it but I will give you a "knocking good bet" for that meeting tomorrow! Get on "THE GIRLS" at 9/2, trust your Uncle Stickler!
2 bets today: Haydock 2.30pm Frankuus 8/1 each way 2 from 2 at Haydock and dropping back in trip today should help along with some juice in the ground. Gutted i missed the 10s earlier. Newmarket 3.40pm Jousi 20/1 each way Met interference on debut and improved display last time out at Ascot. Very nicely bred and I can see a big run at a big price.
With the easy ground everywhere, a day for minimum stakes... The Rose Of Lancaster (Haydock 2:30) looks like a race to avoid. The unbeaten three year old Laraaib needs to find a few pounds to challenges his elders stepping up from handicap company; however, the best of the elders, Autocratic, was withdrawn from a race at York because of easy ground, has a dreadful record on such going and cannot be backed with confidence. Sir Michael Stoute may fair better in the following handicap, but El Cap has not been done any favours by the handicapper, being raised 3lb for defeat at Beverley where the jockey may have been to blame. The Dick Hern (Haydock 3:35) looks like a penalty kick for Pouliches runner-up Sea Of Grace but is priced accordingly. Roly Poly has subsequently reversed that Group 1 form with her suggesting she has not progressed. At HQ, Anythingtoday looks like another penalty kick, provided that two races in a week are not too much for him. In the Sweet Solera (3:40), the choice is between the form filly Dance Diva (provided that the extra furlong is not an issue) and the potential of Poetic Charm, a debut winner with two of today's rivals behind. I think I will pass. The handicap at 4:50 has a weight range of just four pounds but at the bottom of it TAFAAKHOR won last time over course and distance and has potential front-runner Plutonian (on handicap debut) and disappointing Wood Ditton winner Night Circus (now gelded) to beat.
Two cracking races at Newmarket and haddock. Not very original but poetic charm and autocratic singles/double Cheers.
Can someone beam me to Ascot right now, all those young hot fillies that don't have boyfriends. Really !!!
Didn't back it but that was another pathetic ride from Crowley there, been doing punters over all season, the dodgy of the dodgiest so is Jim
