Thats because you got him to agree to stay for one more year.
If you get Coutinho to agree to that, then fair enough.
But if he feels like a hostage, he isn't going to play.
And Suarez was eventually sold to Barca for a big fee <laugh>

I believe at this point anyone else is a panic buy... I believe we had a very clear cb and cm and failed to get them.. I think klopp was unsure on Robertson and he is another Edwards pick that took time to convince klopp on....
Klopp was pretty clear in the Press Conference today that there was a Plan A and nothing else although I think he also said that any players that came were Plan A. If Coutinho does go it would presumably change Klopp's mind on his squad but adding players he doesn't want wouldn't help.

The culture wont change until some rule is implemented to stop it.
Even if you "made a stand" and stopped this sale, it wont stop it from happening again to other clubs, or even yourselves again at a later date.

Maybe so, but your post also insinuated that we should have some kind of personal sympathy for the player in saying that selling him is partly for his benefit. Sorry but I have zero sympathy for him or any player who would pull something similar ... why the **** should I care as an LFC fan what's the best for him when he reneges on a 6 month old contract as soon as ****ing Barca decide they want him simply because they got mugged and lost their first-choice star Brazilian. **** him, the over-paid, mercenary, disloyal ****.

Anyways. He's an idiot if he goes there. He's b-list to them, yeah he'll get a **** tonne of money and inevitably win some **** but it's a totally shallow, soulless endeavour. They wouldn't even look twice if Neymar hadn't left.

He's been loved at Liverpool, A-list, even though he doesn't contribute in nearly enough games and goes missing for time. And I say this as somebody who used to, maybe somewhere slightly, retain(s) a modicum of fandom for Barca from holidays in Spain when I was little and their shirt being the first shirt, other than LFC, that I owned because the burgundy and blue attracted me as it hung outside this little provincial sports shop. But what they're trying to turn, no, have turned this sport into is pretty sickening. Maybe it will take a rule or legislation, but maybe it will take other clubs also sick of this **** to awaken and just say that's it, no more, you can't monopolise us purely on your say so.

One possible scenario, but there are others. Once the window closes he has nothing to gain from sulking, and a lot to lose.
As for your last sentence, that's my point precisely.

Is there even a plan ... at this point ??

reality check to us all

1. This conversation between klopp and player should have already happened

2. player and barca should have been clear if theres a now or never situation.

3. LFC went and issued a statement. If point 1 and 2 were never addressed thats just plain silly.

4. its clear coutinho reacted to LFC statement. What happened to make him react only he and those around him know. Its clear LFC would not have expected the reaction

That would be what we would hope for, that he continues to perform as he can since not doing so would be detrimental to his career ... shop window season I guess you'd call it

If he downs tools then he risks Barca potentially losing interest

This is why I said I'm pretty much done with football, it's totally ridiculous and all about money. These players don't want to work to get to the highest level, prove themselves they just trade on their status. No way is Coutinho even worth 90 million, have you seen him actually play football ... he's got that one thing he does, receive the ball cut in central from left and shoot-score from 20 yards and he doesn't do that very often really (when he does it's amazing obviously)

Unless you sit down with Coutinho, and get him to agree to stay one more year, then keeping him against his will is a terrible idea.
He wont play for you if he is still adamant he wants to go to Barca and your team is weakened by default.
Sell him, get as much cash as you can, and buy a replacement who wants to be there.
Even if he isnt as good, like i said earlier, it will still be better than having a sulky little twat in the squad whose heart isnt in it.

Mahrez would cost £40m, tops. He would be a decent replacement.
If you got £70m from Barca, spend 40 on Mahrez, you get a good player, and are left with £30m.
Everyones a winner, winner, Chicken dinner
A) Mahrez is a winger. Coutinho is a ACM. Hardly a like for like replacement.
B) Mahrez is a one season wonder, was utter **** last year.
C) £70m <laugh> we've already rejected a bid of more than that. It'll be 90-100 before the add-ons please.

Not at all.
Like I have said on the PL board
The guy is on 120k a week or whatever, then decides, 6 months in to a six year deal that he wants to leave BUT also wants compensation for being dismissed, even when HE is the one forcing the move in the first place, to get a HUGE payrise.
At least now he has finally handed in the transfer request, he wont get the compo.
Greedy little ****.

Selling him benefits Liverpool, yes it may benefit him too, but **** him, its about whats best for your club, not spiting Coutinho. Once he is gone, he will be forgotten.

I agree with all that mate

But this is player power to a tee

At some point that has to end

If this cycle continues then obviously it won't

Long term it is damaging the club because we're auctioning off all our world class talent and best assets

We'll just be left in the bungalow with the chintz from Grandmother's back room while somebody else displays the Titians and Breughels in their beautiful hallways

F#cking he'll, I don't think I can arsed with another 20 days of this! I'm off in a couple of hours to get completely and utterly twatted. At least if I post, later, it'll make as much sense as some of the wum's on here! <whistle>

I can't give up on the game - it's been in my blood since I was 6 (a loooong time), but I'm really only interested in watching it played.
All the other side of it - the obscene amounts of money, the so-called "professionalism" of cheating, the turning of the sport into a branch of showbiz, these have all pissed me off for years now. I don't find all this transfer window "excitement" entertaining at all.

None of that changes my point.
Just replace where applicable and everything still stands.
